Apparently smash burgers are big in Perth, lots of competing places. Hoodburger showed up in numerous 'best burgers in Perth' articles when I was looking on my trip, and have been twice to the Applecross location. It's in a cool little area filled with neat restaurants and Hoodburger, staffed by 20-somethings with a keenness for burgers as opposed to jr staff who are just there to get some experience and it exudes a minimalistic focus on the burger concept. They do beef smashes and chicken tender burgers in about 10 varieties. The first time I went I had a deluxe cheeseburger, which was great. The second time I went eating in I had the Double Supreme - a sort of take on a big mac, I think - and it was good. A bit too messy and a bit too sloppily put together and the flavours didn't quite gel the way they do in a perfect cheeseburger. The fries are shoestring and they are decent and cooked freshly, the hot & spicy chicken tender was merely fine, wouldn't be in a hurry for it again.
Smashed burger burger retro dining area This place is well known for starting the smashed burger craze and it’s nice that they have a place closer to home for us.nnCan’t go wrong with their burgers, tasty, yummy and with their potato bun. Add with their crispy fries and different sauces. They need to bottle their honey mustard sauce as it’s so good!! All in all great tasting burgers with a retro vibe.
As soon as we walked into the ambient Applecross store, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming guy. The staff were very friendly - including the burger chefs, who were neatly presented hair net included btw which felt really nice. The place felt very clean including the bathrooms which were very tidy and hygienic. The food was incredible. We ordered the Double Supreme burger and the Chicken Tender Supreme which were both outstanding. The beef patty was melt-in-your mouth tender and is sure to have you wanting more… The chicken was crispy on the outside and deliciously juicy on the inside. Fries 10/10
You kinda know what you’re in for when you go to Hoodburger so should be a surprise that the food is gloriously unhealthy but so tasty.nnEvery burger Ive tried here has always been good, packed with flavour - the cheeseburger in particular is a favourite of mine and the hot version is good too! They are generous with their “regular” aka super large chips and don’t miss out on the sauces, all of their sauces are great!nnThe restaurant isn’t huge so won’t be able to entertain large crowds but for just 4 people it would be fine - either way I think the food would be good to take away too. Staff are friendly, parking is really dependent on the time you come, food comes out fast usually.nnIf you like burgers then this may not be the most refined one you have but as a dirty burger it’s good stuff!
The burgers are juicy, the fries perfectly crispy, and you can taste the care put into every bite. It’s comfort food done right with a local touch.
