About

Health Te Aroha is a general practice, open 7 days a week*, with a nurse phone triage available 24 hours.

*excluding public holidays & long weekends

Story

Health Te Aroha started in the late 1990’s. Tertius Coetzer and Paul Henry amalgamated three of the four solo practices in Te Aroha into one practice and named it Health Te Aroha. This practice moved into a purpose built building in 2001 where it has stayed until today.

During this time we brought pharmacy, pathlab, physio and the dentist into the building. We also offer specialist appointments, a midwife and diabetes nurse specialist.

In 2005 Brendon Eade joined the practice and Health Te Aroha was first given CORNERSTONE accreditation the year after in 2006.

Hayley Scott then joined the practice as a GP in 2007, becoming a director in 2010.

In 2012 we became one of the first privately owned practices in Midlands Health Network to adopt the Health Care Home. This change is now well embedded in the practice.

In December 2016 we said farewell to Paul Henry as he retired from the practice, and Melissa Titterton who joined us as a GP in 2014, stepped up to full time to take over his patients.

We currently have 5500 patients and we offer care to the local community, covering the local rest homes, the community trust hospital and also college clinics.

Since 2006 the practice has been active in teaching. We take fourth and sixth year medical students and also have registrars engaged in their education at the practice.

We are a practice that is quality focussed and enjoys innovation and being at the forefront of general practice.

The practice has prided itself on performing well in the quality plan with Midlands Health. In 2016 we achieved first place in the PHO for our quality performance.

They don’t seem to be able to use common sense when someone needs help, someone who hasn’t filled in the enrolment form yet but is willing to enrol. Person is in discomfort ‘but we can’t help her if she hasn’t started the enrolment yet’. But she’s in discomfort! How about making it about people, not paperwork!
Pretty unprofessional. Messed up my appointment today, and refused to see our 6 year old in the past when he was sick even though we were going to register with their practice. Told us it would take 5 weeks to transfer his records even though our old doctors could have sent the records same day. Told us to just drive him to Hamilton. Didn't bother checking if he had any serious symptoms.nIn our old practice they would fit in sick kids and anyone who was badly ill.nWill be looking for a good doctor's practice, don't think I trust my families health here!nI have complained to this service and they have apologized and are undertaking an investigation. Apparently all calls to this practice are rerouted to a call centre in Hamilton then the practice gets back to you.nNot great. We have reregistered with our old doctor. Our old medical practice is awesome and nobody deserves an unprofessional practice!
Our family are well looked after at the practice and have been for almost 5 years. The doctors don’t rush you in and out even though appointments are only 15 mins long. They also have emergency appointments to squeeze us in when needed and have been easy to access for COVID testing.
Not good service..hard to get an appointment
Doctor gave wrong diagnosis when he got it right to late stage 4.The nurses were also racist. Don't go there
