Could not book the restaurant for dinner on Saturday but turned up and found it was just as nice sitting in the downstairs open area near the beer cellar we were lucky as there was a live blues performance so we had great music too!. The sports bar area also has dining space but it can get noisy. The food has to be ordered at the restaurant expect a line at peak times. We were lucky to have the last pork knuckle in the kitchen and it comes with a knife stuck in it! Presentation aside, the dish is great with great crunch to the crispy skin I heard the crackling crunch from two tables away before mine came! The pork knuckle comes with sauerkraut and red cabbage- so tasty. I loved the Pretzel though… it comes warm and is soft inside, crispy outside with a salty crust. The beetroot fritters are unusual and not crispy if you are expecting a crisp fritter. The Munich Man is good for sharing 2-3. The Frikadallen meatball is tennis ball sized and is tasty. The sauce is just as delicious. The rest- sausage, pork loin, schnitzel- are ok. Atmosphere & food is good. You also get to read about the German immigrants and see some mementos. Outside, it is wonderful to see a piece of history, a portion of the real Berlin Wall. You don’t have to be a member to eat there. The place is also home to Canberra’s dinner theatre.
There are great opportunities at this club. They have Karaoke Heats competition on Wednesday right now.. Thursday DJ Bingo Trivia with Wez. He's great for opportunities too hire him and his buisness out. Got great Menu Selections for adults and Children. Also big pool hall with 8 pool tables too play on. But they play alot of Act and interstate competitions there for pool Ball. Then too the right of the bar is big open Hall too Do Big Events or Party hire. Great location. P.s Il let you enjoy of selected drinks. Parking: Parking all around the building. Also on the street in front of the building.. To the Club. Kid-friendliness: Great Place Too Feed your kids on big meals for great value. Wheelchair accessibility: It's on Ground Floor. Ramps too follow into the club.
Got a booking Sunday night. Have to order early on a Sunday as kitchen closes at 7:30! I had German pasta and my friend the rissoles both filling and yummy. Friendly staff and service, both at bar and restaurant.
My husband suggested the German club for lunch .We have not been there for many years . I love my pork and being European had lots of German food . The club is very run down . Doesn’t feel clean . We ordered our meal of one pork knuckle and a veal schnitzel . By the time my husband got back to the table from getting drinks they brought out the meals . My pork knuckle was barely warm dried out I could hardly cut it . It was as if it was cooked at least 3 days ago . Schnitzel was also not freshly cooked cabbage and sourkrout out of a tin . I had 3 mouth full and felt sick . I love my pork and love food . I asked for a take away box and told the young man it was not except-able. He said he would pass it on . No offer for anything else or a refund . I noticed other table that came after us ordered the meat board and another big platter also came out in 5 min from arrival . Must have a special fast oven . Thank you ! Won’t be going there again .
First time to come here and we tried The Ultimate German Experience. And it was an experience! The choice meats were delectable! I really enjoyed the wurst with all the flavour it packed. Was not a fam of the ham though. It would have been better if all the items were provided, for example the fried onions and smoked pork loin were nowhere. The serving is huge! The pork knuckle is just huge! It is good for even 4 people and it advertised to be good for 2-3. I think even 5 can enjoy it!
Come for the pork knuckle but surprisingly found that the sausage and pretzel are also perfect, all recommended. Of course the knuckle was the best. Good service and good vibes in the club as well.
First time coming here and came for event “Kath and Kim bingo”. Had such a good time at the event. The atmosphere was such a fab time!!! Had dinner with the show. There was a really long wait for it, waited over an hour and a half but was told of the wait. But regardless of the wait the pork schnitzel, mash and sauerkraut was the best I’ve ever had. It was so tasty I have to come back with my kids. The nachos I wouldn’t get again as nothing special, but the pretzels were yum. I had a great time!!
Took a while to order as long line at 6:20pm, but the schnitzel and pork knuckle we got was pretty good, kids pasta bolognese was a bit salty, wasn’t a hit. Too full to try dessert.
Deliciously authentic German meals. Large servings, big variety and amazingly tasty. If you have a hankering for German food and beer, this is the place to go. Great friendly service and fantastic atmosphere. Absolutely one Canberra's best hidden secrets.
Wow! From the amazing welcome by Renata to explain how to use the club for the first time, to the extraordinarily friendly and efficient Leanne taking all of the food orders for over 2 hours straight! Sad to see Alex's 1 star review, the $12 menu is super clear, there is even a menu stuck where you order. Such a bargain on a Tuesday, no wonder it is so popular with the repeat customers each week. We added some sides, we were even prompted 'those sides will be extra' yes we want to try the selection. We were advised of the wait for the freshly cooked food. The reason we visited was to see the piece of the Berlin Wall outside, so fascinating to see a piece of history like that here in Canberra. Highly recommend this place, service, food and experience!
