Ordered the Fish Meal for 2 for A$25. Two lightly-seasoned but well-cooked pieces of Hoki, a huge portion of chips, a large salad which we saved and grilled calamari on a bed of lettuce. Great value for Australia and great food.
This is my local and I am so greatful for that. Always great service, quality of food and generally nice place. Hope it stays around for many more years to come.
My partner and I ordered dinner from Grilled the other night. While we we’re waiting my partner saw that they had put chicken salt on the food. As they we’re the only fish and chips near us that didn’t use animal fat to deep fry their fish in we thought it upsetting they didn’t ask if we wanted chicken salt before adding it. My partner explained she cannot eat this now and the lady gave us a lot of additude when we asked to make it again. The owner said I’ll make it again if you pay for it again! I told the owner if you don’t make it again “you’ll be losing two customers for life” she didn’t care.‍Not a smart business move on her part! So we took the dinner which we couldn’t eat, while on the way home we saw a lady who was obviously living very rough cuts on her neck and only two bags to her name, and we gave our dinner to her. She was so overwhelmed with gratitude that she started crying immediately and sobbing the worlds “thank you” over and over. So I want to thank the owner of the Grilled fish and chips shop on King William street for screwing up our meal and not refunding our money or saying sorry for the mistake, because one homeless lady didn’t go hungry for the night. P.s. I hope the homeless lady is ok with chicken salt.

Very disappointing it was terrible. We ordered five meal for ones at now $13 use to be $11 each one. The fish was dry obviously old fish and use have two pieces in it, the chips were way over salted and the salad. Dear me the salad was best part and the dressing was incredible now it's bland and full of mixed lettuce I can buy in woolies for less half price. We spent $65 bucks on what pile of disappointment. Don't bother ordering from here. WARNING GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
The service is Excellent , Friendly Staff but thats all i can say good about my experience buying Fish & Chips from this place on Easter Friday . I've worked in Fish and Chip shops for over 20 years but to be Honest , i didn't enjoy the Batter , i picked up my order , drove 5 minutes to get home , opened the packet & the batter was like a Plastic Coating covering the Fish . I've never seen batter like that before and hope that i never see it again . It was just un-edible .. now i know why this place is called Grilled , not Battered .

Quality, serving size and prices have changed This used to be our favorite fish and chips and we would travel to get it. Tonight we ordered our usual; large BBQ calamari, two grilled snapped and a small chips. Portions were half the size and quality was significantly reduced. Chips were overcooked, the snapper was dry. A large calamari used to be a full box of squid rings, this serving got us 5 squid rings each. A year ago we would have had too much food to finish. Unfortunately we will probably not return to Grilled.
Very disappointing. Since new owners the quality has gone down and prices up. Squid serving now so small on a huge bed of lettuce. It was tough and over cooked. The snapper was dry, thin and half the size it usually was. It could have been any fish, not sure it was even snapper. We will not be going back and are on the hunt for a new fish and chip shop that does not rip customers off.
This was our local fish and chip shop for years. Always the best chips and nicest salads. Clearly it’s recently changed owners. They have introduced eftpos, which is great, and they’re lovely people. Chatty and friendly. The chips, fish, and sauces are as good as I remember. However there was a scary incident with the salads. Used to love the pasta salad, and ordered it last night. As we were leaving the owner was telling us about a power outage they had experienced. We didn’t twig at the time, but when we got home and opened the salad it smelt a little odd. Then when taste tested it the noodles were slimy and the dressing tasted fizzy and gassy. Seemed like food poisoning waiting to happen. Salad went in the bin. We ate the rest of the food rationalising that the chips and fish would have come from the coolroom which wouldn’t have lost temperatures as quickly as the front fridge where the salads are kept during the outage. We feel fine today, and we will go back, but no more salads.
