Nestled in North Carlton’s leafy Rathdowne Street, the Great Northern Hotel boasts a prime location. Founded in 1883, the Great Northern features one of Melbourne’s largest decked beer gardens, providing the perfect spot to unwind, enjoy one of the city’s best beer lists, with twenty-two taps, and tuck into some outstanding food.

Good value meals and great service. Dogs allowed in the beer garden.
Very nice place. Lovely indoor and outdoor setting and being dog friendly is a huge draw card. Food and drink is a bit more expensive than you’d expect from the average pub the quality does match.
Beer selection is getting great and I'm a fan of the steak sandwich! Especially if it's all enjoyed out the back in the garden.
A classic post-princes-park-sport catch up spot. Customer service can be hit and miss, and due to popularity wait times for food can be like 45 mins. Best to book ahead too. Good for watching sports
First outing post COVID lock down was a winner. Felt strange having to book, receive table service and time our stay. Worth it though for the good food, friendly service and no minimum spend across our 2.5 hour visit to Great Northern. Will be back soon!
Great local pub, outdoor and indoor seating, good food eggplant parma is and a pool table. Dog friendly pub.
Bartender / bouncer are the rudest people ever. Don’t go there. Unless you want to be served by staff that are miserable and clearly not happy with there job or life.
Nice venue, cold beer. Meal didn't do it for me.. hubby had a steak sandwich & I had veggie nachos. Only 2 other people in the pub and our meals came out 5 minutes apart.. sandwich first with the chips being cold..
Great pub with the worst bathrooms ever. You could smell them walking down the hallway, probably could be soaked in bleach and closed for 48hrs. 10/10 would hold my breath when going in
