We had a wonderful morning on the steam engine with our 3.5 year old and 15 month old. Our 15 month old little girl enjoyed the train ride a lot more than I expected. The ride itself is not too long, very pleasant. Despite the heat would put the kids in closed toe shoes next time we visit - can’t wait to visit again.
Very lovely set up with lights, craft stalls, yummy snacks/ coffee stalls and of course, the lovely train ride! Missed out on the big guy Santa as it was raining hard the day we visited but overall, everyone had a good time. A place to take whole family.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes

Such a fun day out, took my kids and we had a blast. Train stops in the station for a while at the start while they clean and setup inside the train so you can take lots of photos etc. We rode in the open top carriage for the first half of the journey which we loved. You are able to walk between the carriages while the train is moving. The train ride itself lasts about an hour with a little stop to fill up water tank. Everyone with closed toe shoes can get off the train and look at the other steam train they have in a shed. Was a super fun experience and I would definitely recommend.
Honestly didn’t expect this to be much, just thought it’ll be a train ride and that’s it. But I was pleasantly surprised, and it is best to go with kids as they are the ones who really take away the most. The whole operation is run by volunteers which is so cool.. and they’re doing a fab job! Visit the website to keep a track on what they have on currently as they do light and sound shows too.
Absolutely wonderful experience! 2 10/10.The staff on board were so friendly and kind. Loved the entire journey and our trip to the workshop aswell. Kids and adults both will love this journey!Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
We had a steam train return journey booked for us 4 adults and the 2 minis and it was a glimpse of how things were done in years gone by. All the people that work there and look after the constant influx of visitors are volunteers and are so lovely. Their outfits really make you feel like you've stepped back in time, and we really enjoyed our trip chug-chugging over lush farmland with the whistle blowing and hissing as we went. We were in the last outside carriage so despite being enveloped in black coal steam.. ..it was nice to feel the wind rush by on this swelteringly hot day.
The Glenbrook Vintage Railway first class experience is a must try. High tea on board a steam train that runs along Glenbrook to Waiuku and back. The whole trip takes about 65 mins and takes you across a countryside. There are limited seats for the First Class Experience so check out their website to book a time. However if you do miss out on the High Tea experience you can still ride the locomotive through the Steam Train Experience.
Great place for an authentic steam train experience. Dedicated staff who faithfully restore and run a steam train service more reliably than Auckland Transport manages with 100 years newer technology.
What an absolutely amazing experience! This is something I have been wanting to do for years, and just never got round to, especially since the train only runs on weekends and holidays The Glenbrook Vintage Railway was founded in 1970 to preserve, rebuild, and operate the old Waiuku Branch Railway between Glenbrook and Waiuku Once you step through the gates, you are magically transformed to a golden era that captures everyone's hearts I had a bit of a coffee and cake break while waiting for the train. Although it doesn't seem like much, it was actually quite delicious Everyone, young and old, was buzzing with excitement when we heard the loudwhistle and saw the steam train coming into the station. There are different classes of carts. The first is the parlour car or their first class guests. This is where you can enjoy a high tea. Unfortunately it sells out very fast, and I missed out. Then there are 2nd and 3rd class carts, and an open air cart. The seats are not allocated and you can sit where you want, and move between carts not the parlour car It runs between Glenbrook and Waiuku. At the other end you have the option to get off and explore the town, and get on a later returning train. On the journey back, it stops at the workshop, where you can see the inner works of these majestic locomotives. It only offers 3 services a day and only runs on some weekends and holidays The scenic view of the hills and farmlands were great The clickety clack of the train on the track isn't there a song about it is so soothing and adds romance to the experience I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Online bookings are essential, so they can control the numbers during the red light setting. Vaccine passports are checked upon entry, and you're required to wear a mask for the duration of the trip
