Stayed at Gladstone Backpackers recently and honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The atmosphere was unreal — super welcoming, clean rooms, friendly staff and a really chilled vibe. Perfect spot to meet new people whether you’re travelling solo or with mates. The pool area and nightly activities made it feel like a home away from home. Great location close to everything in town too. Easily one of the best backpackers I’ve stayed at in Queensland, will definitely be back!
Gladstone backpackers, I’m so glad I stumbled across this little gem on the east coast of QLD. One of my favourite hostels I’ve ever stayed at, the vibes of this place are impeccable, lovely atmosphere, great staff and very social 24/7. Bryn and the team that were running the place were great, very welcoming and accommodating. Each night they cook a ‘hostel dinner’ at very reasonable price, you can get a great feed, some really great food. Good selection of QLD craft beers on tap, pool table, darts board, swimming pool, you can’t really ask for much more from a hostel. Comfy beds, would personally recommend getting an A/C room if possible. Bathrooms / shower areas were good, seemed decently clean, hot showers etc, can’t complain when you’re staying in a hostel. Decent kitchen on site if you want to cook yourself. Range of animals on site, 2 lovely dogs that wander around the site, a snake, a turtle, a bird and a bearded dragon, super cool and definitely added to the ‘homely vibes’. Honestly don’t skip this place if you’re traveling up/down the coast, you will love it.
Brynn and the team have been really wonderful. Family dinners every night. Activities together. It's a revolving team, but it's really nice when you're in a new place and want to meet other like-minded travelers. My partner and I rented the private room with the AC in it. Had to share the communal bathroom with everyone, but it's not so bad. I see staff cleaning every morning. People are milling about, at different times. It's a homey place with clean furnishings. No issues on our end. We came in early Dec this year, really hot weather, so the AC was great. Brynn always had recommendations for places to eat, visit, sightsee; dinner at the hostel was cheap and varied from $5-15, depending on what was on the menu.
It was an excellent experience living here!nnNot only the boss helped me find a job when I was all broke and have no where to go.nnThe people and vibe here are also so sweet that I had fun playing pool, making pizza & tacos, doing trivia, hanging out.nnIt was so fun and make me feel like in a big family while there is joy always around.
I initially planned to stay at Gladstone Backpackers for just one week… and ended up staying three months! This hostel feels more like a big house with a warm, family-like atmosphere. There’s a wood-fired oven where you can make pizza every Saturday night, ping pong, pool, and a bar that serves as the social heart of the place. Every evening there’s something to eat and plenty of fun activities going on.nnThe staff is incredibly helpful, especially when it comes to finding a job. It’s the perfect place to complete your 88 days, as the postcode is eligible even for hospitality work. If you're thinking of coming here, I definitely recommend choosing the hostel over a private house – it’s a true social hub.nnLastly, having worked in hospitality for a long time, I can honestly say the hostel staff is something special. It’s rare to find a group of people so caring, thoughtful, and dedicated – they really treat the place like their home. It’s an experience you need to feel for yourself. Highly recommended!
