I haven't had fish n chips in a long time so thought I'd give Gibbo's a try as it was highly recommended to me. Well I was very impressed. Tidy and clean shop with a few tables inside, but they are definitely spoilt with the stunning setting outside looking over the harbour out to Whale Island. Staff were friendly, very generous portion sizes, crispy batter and crispy kumara chips. Never had such nice kumara chips before. Best fish n chips I've ever had. Best part is sitting on bench seats outside enjoying the meal with beautiful view. Highly recommended.
Thought I check this place out, glad I did service and staff were excellent, fast and friendly. As for food we had wedges which was delicious. To say that they're busy, was a understatement customers rocking up all the time. Hats off to the cook Amber and her work colleague, who didn't miss a beat or order
Very wary about buying fish and chips from touristy places, but I have to say, the fisherman's basket was amazing! Another 'going back there again' place! Service was fabulous, prompt, even though quite busy, the batter light and tasty, and all of the seafood fresh as! Hubby enjoyed his cheese burger too and my chips
Lovely spot on the wharf with a view of whale island. Lovely sea breeze. Very generous portions of food and a nice assortment of drinks. Tidy clean shop and the same with the outdoor seating area. The staff are professional and friendly and helped us with the best deal for our needs. Made our visit to Whakatane an even better experience before heading off back home to Te Puke.
Best fish n chips I've tried fish is fresh as. Service is great and also fast good place to just chill out and enjoyFood: 5/5
Great value, friendly service and really good fish! Didn't like those squid rings though but thats just my personal taste. Anyways, would go back for classy fish and chips!
Very decent fish & chips on the wharf in Whakatane. Lots of options for fish other than just 'fish of the day' and the usual deep fried selection of fritters, sausages, burgers chips & other seafood plus ice cream and drinks. They do have some seating inside with high chairs available, overflow seating upstairs, there's a fishtank you can watch while you're watching for your food. There are a couple of picnic tables outside on the wharf if you want to eat straight away.
Cool place to dine in, reason for only 3 stars was because by time we got home, 7 minute drive the chips on bottom of cardboard were soggy & some parts of the battered fish 2. Loved the salt sachets thou & the gurnard fish tasted yummy. Maybe need bit more cooking so doesn't go soggy??? Love the fish tank. And sunset was beautiful to watch while waiting.
Fresh fish, crunchy batter, cooked well preserving the taste and moisture of the fish, oysters perfectly encased with crunch leaving the juice and flavour intact. Spent this meal with whanau seated outside overlooking the sea in all it's glory with the sun beaming warmly at this seaside town, of Whakatane.
Good sounds.. service with a smile and banter, but serving size small. Thin fish fillet.. not even a full fillet for the price. $8.50 snapper... small scoop
