We stopped here with the kids for lunch on our way home. Currently has a limited menu being served out of a van but we were happy with the options and portions were generous. Friendly staff were happy to explain the history of the place and show us where the convict cells were.

Nice place to chill out. . Lunch menu isn't bad at all had the Greek salad and French fries really nice chips and cheap. The best part would have to be the lovely outlook if you're sitting outside. It's pleasant, a lot of truckies come in the afternoon for a beer,! and a mixture of families 😍

When I moved to Australia the whole ‘Pub’ thing was foreign to me. Quickly, I learned that Pubs were like football teams and have a very loyal and enthusiastic following. It is very clear to me why the ‘George’ has such a following. The building itself exudes the rich and colourful history of the region and its clientele are an eclectic bunch. Just over thirty years ago, when I first arrived in Australia ‘Pub food’ was used as a pejorative, a put down. Today, some of the best food in Australia is cooked and served at pubs. The George is not just an example of the spirit of the Great Aussie Battler, it’s a place to get exceptional food. My meal was the special for the night, the Slow cooked lamb served with perfection and topped with amazing. I could not fault the meal. It had each requisite component to make for the perfect dinner: Flavour, ample size and good value. The staff had obvious passion for the food they were creating and were exceptionally knowledgeable about The George and it’s history. With a meal this good, my beverage of choice was Guiness. Alas, it was the perfect way to accompany a perfect meal. Whether you are a local, a transplant from another part of the Earth, like I am, or passing through the region, ‘The George’ is someplace special and a visit would be a great addition to your time in Picton. Enjoy!
