Situated in a lovely spot in the hills of Roleystone. Surrounding by trees and nature. Have been here many times over the years. The owners are lovely and friendly. My only issue is that they have changed the food. I had the vegan breakfast. It is much smaller now but the price is the same and presentation is not as good as previously. Please change back to the old menu!...where there was a choice between scrambled tofu and the vegan omelette. We will still visit for the delicious smoothies and cakes but not for breakfasts..a little too pricey for the size.
Unfortunately I had a pretty poor experience here. We were asked to wait for a table that was pre-booked, standing around while the table was very slowly cleared. The wait for food was very long, over 45 minutes, and it was not worth it. The food looked appetising, but didn't measure up in terms of taste. Most of it was a bit bland and lukewarm. The wait for the coffee, however, was ridiculous. We waited over half an hour just for two coffees and a tea, which were very good but still not worth the wait. The majority of the staff were a little indifferent towards anything that was going on. We were also informed that the menu was significantly smaller than usual because they had run out of some food items. One would think that they'd prepare for a busy day like Mother's Day with extra staff or reserves of food, but apparently not.
We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday breakfast at this gem of a place, hidden away in the picturesque Perth hills. Genesis in the Hills is located in Roleystone and this area looks lovely in autumn and spring. Genesis is a vegetarian cafe and its hearty fare was tasty and filling even for meat lovers like us . We had the Shakshuka which was served with organic turmeric sourdough bread. We also enjoyed the Genesis Full Breakfast which included scrambled eggs, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, potato patty and sourdough bread. And we couldn't resist the delish maple nut cake topped with ricotta cheese. The staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. The forest views were lovely and the setting tranquil. Genesis is a lovely little bit of Eden in the Perth hills.
As I walk in to the almost empty cafe I'm greeted with someone asking me to hurry up and order because they're expecting a large group. We hadn't even sat down yet! We stayed for 30 minutes and there were only two or three other couples there. It's outrageous to charge $2 for soy milk in a coffee. You end up paying $6 for a tiny coffee which could be found in the city for $3.50. On top of this the milk was burnt and it was served in a cup with no insulation or handle. By the time it was cool enough for me to pick up, I realised the hair on top. Food is extremely expensive and the new menu is very disappointing. The spelling mistakes were amusing, though. Ordered the beyond burger which was $25. The bread was delicious but the beyond patties was not hot only like warm. Didn't come with any side other than a bit of slaw which was not exciting. The Mac and cheese Cobb loaf was okay but also came with a side of slaw. Have you never heard of chips or salad? In summary: it's out of the way, it's expensive, the new menu sucks and the food isn't good. My old review was five stars. Either the owners have changed or they've given up hope. There's better veg options in the area which won't cost a fortune.
This is our new favourite dining experience. Beautiful location up in the trees, nice atmosphere and tasty cuisine. Top marks.
Amazing location, great presentation of food, staff were quick to take our order and our vegan dishes tasted really nice, this restaurant is dog friendly
Lovely location - serene, idyllic. Wonderful service, excellent food, especially for those of us who are "Plant Based Lifestyle" however I will definately bring my friends who eat "normal" food so they can broaden their palates and step out of their comfort zones. Unless you are extremely fussy, you won't be disappointed. Can't wait to go back. AAA+
Definitely over priced for what you get! I ended up giving my dog the sweet potato chips. My son who is in fact vegan, ordered a vegan burger and he said the vegan burgers from Coles are so much better. Sadly my salad had no taste... luckily I was hungry! On the positive side the staff were very friendly, had a beautiful view, the little restaurant had a really cool location too! I also loved that I could bring my dog, since not many cafes allow it!
Lovely vegan food! I had the eggplant parmi and the portion is very big! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing.
Omg so so sooo good! So much flavor! I had tomato salad and tumeric potatoes shard. Just really really flavorful yumminess!
