Geelong Railway Station blends 19th-century character with the practical needs of a busy commuter hub. The red-brick façade and clock tower greet passengers with a touch of Victorian grandeur, and arched windows in the main hall let in enough daylight to soften the constant shuffle of travellers. Step onto the island platform and you still catch glimpses of the original bluestone foundations alongside modern electronic departure boards.nnTrains for Melbourne run frequently during peak hours and usually stick to the timetable, while services toward Warrnambool feel more relaxed but still reliable. V/Line staff at the ticket window are quick with advice about Myki top-ups, platform changes and connection times, and conductors often add an extra bit of local knowledge for visitors.nnPractical touches make the stopover easy. Sheltered seating keeps the wind at bay, a small kiosk supplies decent coffee and toasties, and clean toilets sit just beyond the waiting room. Lifts and ramps provide step-free access between street level and platforms, though the footbridge can feel narrow when two trains empty at once, so a little patience helps. Bike racks and long-stay parking cater to commuters, and the taxi rank out front usually has a cab or two waiting even after the last evening train.nnGeelong Station may not aim for city-terminal polish, yet the blend of heritage architecture, friendly staff and generally smooth operations gives it a welcoming character that makes the commute or day-trip start on the right note.
Geelong Railway Station blends historic charm with practical amenities, making it a solid hub for regional travel. The lifts and customer service are standout features, and the bus connections are a plus for exploring the Surf Coast. That said, a few tweaks—like better vending options, improved signage, and a deeper clean in high-traffic areas—could elevate it to rival the polished stations I’ve seen in Europe. If you’re passing through, take a moment to admire the period architecture and old railway photos in the booking room—they’re a nod to Geelong’s rich history.
Cafe is Small and nice.nToilet is always dirty.
Genuinely furious, and the worst part is individuals rely on this system so my review does NOTHING.nnI understand the need to shut down this station at a certain time as the demand is too low, but Geelong is a city.nnI should not be forcibly removed so they can close the station, 15 MINUTES before the bus replacement coach had arrived.nnI was informed that the station would have a 11:07 train to southern cross station. This caused me to leave my event earlier so I could make it. After arriving at the station I had to make my way to the service desk as my train didn’t leave at its intended time and no one told me that a new bus replacement would be occurring 20minuyes later. When I tried to stay inside they pushed me out so they could close the space.nnNo other place seems to close early when customers are still using their service. Instead we all wait until the customers are happy, especially if we the employees are the cause of the delayed service.
Beautiful old station with great staff. Lots of connecting services and a well stocked cafe if you get stuck and have to wait for a bit. Plus it's close to town so a good location. Carpark could probably be bigger but it's not like they have space to expand!
