Where to start… Service: Called them to book a Mother’s Day dinner, and they made themselves sound like they were booked out when I asked if we could walk in around 7:30/8 as we weren’t sure what time we’d make it in by. We got there, restaurant was very empty. Just us 5 there. + restaurant was in a hurry to feed us and get us out of there. This was the shortest time we’ve spent on a meal as a family, literally 30-40min only. They were also in a rush to clear out our plates + no mention of desserts on their menu or by the waitress, so when it came to desserts, she refused because the kitchen closed at 8:30 and we didn’t ask before. + the kitchen staff are extremely loud in their conversation, the ambience is really bad and at times I couldn’t even hear my family talking + this may be personal opinion but if I’m having dinner, I don’t want to be sitting right next to someone sweeping and mopping the floor. Ruins the vibe. Food: not vegetarian friendly! In a world where restaurants have more options to cater to vegetarians and vegans, and especially where I’ve been to other Thai restaurants who’ve been able to cater to my request for a structure vegetarian meal with no meat, seafood or egg inclusive of sauces, these guys did a terrible job. You could go to an Asian supermarket and find a vege “oyster” sauce and stir fry sauce easily. Whoever said gata thai was great taste and value for food was clearly lying. The pad see ew were just boiled bland salted rice noodles + boiled vegetables, not even as much as pepper or soy sauce was added to add even the slightest taste dimension. Same with the chilli basil noodles, friend rice and cashew nut stir fry. Tip: go to Pear Thai thornleigh or Noodle hut Cherrybrook instead if you’re after taste, value, and dietary accomodation the curry puffs and spring rolls just passed in taste, and honestly I shouldve just ordered a bunch of them and called it a night. This was the most disappointing Thai experience I’ve ever had.
With so many choices a place needs to be special to stand out, and Gata Thai Dural does just this. We dined in and were quickly seated. This place does not server any alcohol, so BYO. With the bottle shop in that was no problem. For entrées we selectee the curry puffs$7.90 and seafood net rolls$7.90. The rolls were delicious. Fresh seafood and delicate casing providing a satisfying crunch. The puffs on the other hand were left wanting. Lacked flavour and the pastry felt a little doughy. For mains we had one beef and one chicken Pad Se Ew$15.90 each. Decent serving, salty sweet balanced that delivered on flavour. The protein was cooked perfectly. So many other items in the menu screaming to be sampled. Next time. While we were dining6pm the take away orders were pumping out. Testament on just how popular this place is with the locals. Not that we needed it but we decided to have some desert as well one deep-fried ice cream and one sweet rotti. Both were enjoyable and not overly rich.
Lovely ambience and food .. purely authentic. The quantity of food is overwhelming. Nice locale. Quick service and moderate costing Vegetarian options: Most of the dishes can be made in vegetarian variant
Not kid friendly - choose another restaurant if you have any kids who do not like to eat Thai food. My husband and I went to Gata Thai with our young son for a rare dinner out. My son is a picky eater and does not like Thai food so we brought food and a spoon for him to eat it from home. Shortly after my husband and my meals were delivered a waitress approached us and said my son was not allowed to eat his food as it was not purchased from them. We explained that our son was very picky eater and would not eat Thai food. This did not change the waitress’s standpoint. We asked to speak to the manager only to be told that there was no manager in the restaurant. My so had to sit, wait and watch us eat whilst we ate as quickly as we could to get out of there. We will not be going back to Gata Thai! Shame on you Gata Thai for ruining what was meant to be a pleasant dinner out for dinner for no good reason!! Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly - please read my comment for details
Nice and polite staffs, yummy foods and big portions.
The food is fantastic and when dining in the service is great and plenty of food to go around and you never have to wait very long once you have placed the order.. ordering takeaway is always great and only takes a short time to collect once you have placed the phone order or order on line.. thanks SteveFood: 5/5
Great balanced taste of quality food at a reasonable price. The portion is not much for the man but the quality and taste of the food will cover it enough.Recommended dishesTom Yum, Pad SE EW
Our experience was average as in all the stir fry dishes the vegetables were pretty much raw . It seemed as they were in a hurry to get the dishes done. Flavour was good.
I love this place when visiting Sydney. I generally start eating the food before I think to take a photo of it. Whether I've eaten in restaurant or take away I have enjoyed every dish so far!
The best Thai Restaurant not only in Dural but also in Sydney. I love their $11 lunch specials
