Friends on the Hill

This is one of my favourite cafes for quality and coseyness. Its in the middle of Monbulk with plenty of parking. Inside it has a Coonara log fire on the right wall and book shelves with books on the left wall. A lovely large window looking out to outdoor seating and trees. We had the most tasty lunch. Poached egg, smoked salmon, spinach + on a Turkish roll with coffe/hot chocolate.Highly recommended.

I’ve been here a few times and I actually really like it. I say “actually” because a lot of cafes neglect to provide good vegan options. They have a really great vegan burger and I was really surprised by how great it was. They have awesome coffee and also offer vegan sweets- which is so awesome! Sometimes the staff are a bit iffy, but I would assume and can understand that it would be due to the stress of running a fast paced cafe. If you experience this, don’t judge too soon. Sometimes stress can come across as rudeness. Thanks guys for providing great differing dietary options. I’ll be sure to recommend to friends!

I had scrambled eggs on sourdough and smokey bacon. The bread had substance, the eggs were perfect and the 2 rashers were surprisingly smokey. My wife had the chicken wrap. The chicken was juicy and not crumbed which we liked, the wrap was strong but thin so it didn't overpower the filling and the amount of aoli was perfect. It came with chips that were perfect too! Yep, we were really happy we ate there!!

Don’t let the business name fool you, these are the rudest owners I’ve ever encountered! I was charged $17 for HALF a BLT. When I questioned price, owner offered to add chips I really only wanted a full sandwich but then changed his mind and went to refund me instead. After he handed me the money, he then changed his mind again and ripped money out of my hand by squeezing my fingers. He is a local business and I work in a local business, so this is extremely unhinged behaviour and recommend staying away!!!!

We thought we would try this place having read many positive reviews however it turned out to be underwhelming in every way. From the minute I walked in the service was non existent. The 3 girls on had no idea what was going on. After I seated myself, I waited ages to get a menu and even longer to order, so long I wondered if we had to order at the counter. We ordered 1 x bruschetta and scrambled eggs with bacon however we we received 2 X bruschetta and 1 x poached eggs bacon so had to wait for the order to be redone. The scrambled eggs was not up to cafe standard, dry and plain. Bruschetta was ok. When we asked to split the bill at the end they agreed yet charged my partner the full amount. If you want service do not go here. The staff have no idea.

As a long standing customer of Friends on The Hill, I am absolutely appalled by the owners behaviour. Upon being questioned about $17 charge for half a BLT, the owner was rude, aggressive and abusive. A truly frightening experience. You’ve lost a customer in me, my friends and the many others who will know about this.

Great food. We ordered 12 different dishes and 6 different desserts since there’re couple of us, they taste great! Highly recommended. Price are reasonable as well. Great drew coffee. Friendly staff, there’re plenty of books to reads and toys for kids to play with. Good place to chill :

Food was good and they have Jason Bourne. Books also in a rainbow which was pleasing to my eyes. But more importantly. JASON BOURNE

The best cheese toastie I've had in a while. Well melted cheese very important and high quality bread. Nicely served drinks!! Would recommend. Splendid and polite staff.
