Friends of the Earth

About

Working for environmental and social justice

Story

Friends of the Earth Melbourne believes that social and environmental issues cannot be separated from each other. As a result, FoE is a social and environmental justice organisation. It seeks to work towards a sustainable and equitable future and seeks to work in a way that empowers individuals and communities. This means that FoE operates on a collective basis using consensus for decision-making.

FoE campaigns from the local to global level: it is part of the FoE Australia network, which currently includes 12 groups around the country. FoE Australia is, in turn, the national member of FoE International, which is now active in more than 70 countries.

Marvelous place!!! Had a delightful moment at Friends of the Earth, with great coffee and banana bread. The range of organic, healthy and sustainable products is AMAZING. Will come back :Food: 5/5
I used to go to the co-op at Melbourne uni all the time and loved it, so I am happy to revisit since I’ve departed uni many years ago. The burger is always amazing, huge size and full of flavours. The curries are funky, sometimes good flavours, sometimes a bit weird but everything is super nutrient dense and worth the $$
Love their coffee, and always enjoy their food whether it's just a sandwich, a sweet treat or a healthy lunch bowl. They also sell some grocery items and bulk food and cleaning, so bring containers in case. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/Vegan
This place feels like it's been here forever. It certainly attracts some regulars and fits well into the Smith Street community. There are a couple of parts to this place. Firstly the cafe/restaurant at the front where you can order from a nice menu of healthy food that is mostly made with seasonable items plus you can order your coffee or refreshments here. The vegetarian/vegan food is reasonably priced as well. Then there is a fridge area where you can buy vegetables and eggs. Towards the rear, there are items such as handmade soaps, candles, herbs & spices and even handmade beanies which at the time of writing this - end of May cold snap, is quite appropriate. There are also packets of seeds available for purchase. Plus there is more. Love the sign at the counter about allergies see picture. You are encouraged to bring your own bags and where possible, buy items that are sourced ethically and buy in bulk. As you can expect, there are many flyers and items on what's happening locally in regards to community events, community action groups and organisations that are looking for assistance. If you'd like to volunteer for a few hours, just ask the staff. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking in Smith Street. A must visit and only wish there were more of these places around Melbourne.
My go to weekday or weekend lunch spot. Love their daily vegetarian lunch bowls that are different and creative every time! Only $14.50 which is decent for what you get.
The lunch plate was colorful, tasty and good value. All in a not for profit organization espousing environmental and social justice. A Collingwood must!
Great store!!! Vegan lunch special was INCREDIBLE and they have a really cool assortment of stuff for sale like soaps and home goods. Relaxed and comfortable, minimal waste and lots of vegan options.
What an amazing place. I have to say we need to really appreciate community cafes like this one. Food was so good. Staff were excellent and the prices were reasonable. I would recommend the Lunch plate which starts at 12.
Amazing food 100% vegan and organic. Many gluten free options. Love the bulk shopping and organic fruit and veg as well
Friends of the Earth Melbourne Food Coop is a nice grocery shopping place and coffee Sell some organic foods and you could bring your own containers to buy groceries to save this planet
