My first time at this venue to watch Blanco White. Really lovely space - it was a perfect setting for seeing that band.
We attended the Fokofpolisiekar show at Freo.Social on Sunday 29 March 2026.nThey are a South African Rock band.nThe venue itself was good, the bands were fantastic.nnUnfortunately, our experience was affected by an incident before the show began.nMy friend was removed from the venue after saying “Baie Dankie” “Thank you” in Afrikaans, which is the language the band performed in and what the majority of patrons spoke to a staff member.nThere was clearly a misunderstanding; he is a bigger guy and speaks expressively with his hands common in our culture, and although he wasn’t being aggressive, I can understand how it may have been perceived that way.nnI appreciate that the venue wants to ensure a safe environment for staff and patrons, and security were actually very polite and helpful when I approached them to understand what had happened.nThey pointed me to a manager, but before I could even explain the situation, he cut me off abruptly and walked away.nI understand they deal with a lot and often need to be firm, but the interaction felt unnecessarily agressive and dismissive.nnWhat felt particularly unfair is that later during the show, another patron who behaved inappropriately and made women uncomfortable was pushed out by the crowd, reported, and ultimately removed, yet was later allowed back in and even ended up on stage with the band at the end of the night.nnIt was disappointing to see a genuine misunderstanding treated more harshly than behaviour that actually made people feel unsafe.nnI’m sharing this not to criticise the venue as a whole, we genuinely did enjoyed the show and appreciate the staff who handled things respectfully, but to highlight an inconsistency that affected the experience.nI hope the management team might consider reviewing how such situations are handled going forward.
Went and saw a band here The Last Living Souls Gorilliaz's cover band and the venue didn't disappoint. Bustling and busy,clean toilets and plenty of brews on tap. Ask for the best barman Rob.
It was my first visit last Thursday night to Freo Social for Bic Runga and the 2 ladies on the door were so friendly and helpful. 5 stars to you both!nThe venue is awesome with lots of areas to chill out and have a beer or 2 and music venue is a great size. Loved it!
Great spot for live music. Casual food options and a decent range of usual and interesting drink options. Seating is really comfortable and large enough for a decent crowd but still intimate.
