Our tour guide Chris was great. Very historic location and the only world heritage site in Western Australia.nnI would recommend tickets for the smaller tours and any packages if you want to do more than one in your day.nnDefinitely much to learn here but much can be heavy with all the things that have happened over time. Would recommend to ensure this is suitable if you're traveling with family.
Hourly tours, our guide was a young chap who was very enthusiastic about prisons in general and made the entire experience more lively. Took the standard towards the enabled us to visit the prison grounds as well as some of the key dormitories where the guide explained about the facilities and the history of the prison.nI never knew that there was a difference between the word prisoners and convicts until this tour.nSuitable for all age groups except perhaps really young kids.
Was great to see that the prison buildings are well taken care of and it’s kept nicely for those who appreciate the heritage value of the prison. Tour was great to see all the different areas shower block, kitchen, reception, women’s, outdoor rec yards, gallo, cells. Was wanting more in depth information, as information given on the tour was very basic English.
We got lost while finding the place but it turns out to be an experience that worth all the hassle.nThe staff offer nice advise one on which type of tour to experienced but as we have limited time, we just choose the one more kids friendly and with minimal waiting time.nIt's quite a hot day but the tour guide makes the tour pleasant with his humourous speech and knowledgeable sharing. Surprise the place even offer water dispenser to keep visitors hydrated. Learn a lot of history during the tour and it ends with an activity which the kids enjoyed. Will highly recommend the tour if you are in Perth.
Don’t let the words “history tour” fool you!nnMy three boys 1, 6 & 8 were absolutely mesmerised on the Convict tour from start to finish. Our tour guide was Tim, who has an incredible way of bringing history to life that kept all of us hooked. nnPro tip: Book the 5pm Convict Prison Tour. Watching the prison transform from daylight to darkness adds so much to the atmosphere. We even ended up with a VIP tour because we were the only group during the school holidays, too!.nnI also had no idea how much of Western Australia was built by convict labour. We left with a completely different appreciation for our state’s history.nnIf you’re on the fence, just BOOK IT. It’s one of the best experiences we’ve had in Perth, and we live here. We’d do it again in a heartbeat.
