A really fascinating place to visit. Learning about how it was built and how the prisoners were living and the number of stories just keeps you wondering. A great place for history lovers. They have different types of tickets available for day tours and night tours. It's best to buy the tickets in advance especially if visiting on weekends. A must visit and is suitable for all ages.
Fantastic tour!! Wow what a great day. We came here on the spur of the moment and loved it. We were able to book a tour without pre booking which was so handy. We booked the "Behind Bars" which covered the history of the jail. Our tour guide James was amazing Such an informative and knowledgeable tour guide with a great personality. James knew how to keep us interested and his jail trivia was fascinating. Thanks James!! Free parts are available for viewing by the public including the art gallery. The art is contributed by current inmates of WA. Highly recommend giving the jail a visit and doing a tour.
I don't take many tours, they're not my thing, but I made an exception for this one and was not disappointed. We took the tunnels tour and our guide was good--knowledgable and entertaining--and the experience of going through the tunnels was fascinating. You descend 60 feet by ladder harnessed to it then walk through, stooping where the ceiling is low. You eventually get to boats and complete the trip in water. We really enjoyed it.
Did the Fremantle Prison Torchlight Tour. Highly recommend. Our guide was fantastic in educating and keeping the group engaged. Lots of interesting facts and anecdotes. There are a few pleasant surprises along. They provide each guest a torch for the journey which you get to keep as a souvenir.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
This place is AMAZING, so full of history and very knowledgeable tour guides. My 10 and 11 year old daughters and myself had a fantastic time on the 8.45pm torchlight tour tonight 9/12/2022 the only downside is some negative Nancies wrote a letter/complained about the dummy falling from above and they had to get rid of it. I was really looking forward to that part, it was always my favourite part. I can't wait to come back.
Fascinating landmark prison in the heart of Fremantle. This World Heritage site has a lot to offer with different tours available on the hour at reasonable prices. Tours include the convict era, behind-bars, true crime, tunnels and night tours. Each tour goes for approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and it is certainly worth your time. The tour guides will tell you interesting stories about both the prison ground and the prisoners. Having done the true crime tour, it was great to learn of the fascinating stories of the men and women that have done time behind these walls. True stories on how they lived, the crimes they committed and the times they tried to or did escape were an unforgettable experience.
If you love history , then this Prison is the place to visit. I enjoyed it better than the markets. Took a basic tour for $22 and loved all the info. Thank you Jane for all the info. Was taken to the gallows and good photo opportunities for memories. Can't imagine being sentenced in the late 1800's or early 1900's. So cold inside.
Go visit it if you're a history or architectural enthusiast. Staff are passionate and helpful. Highly recommend the tours to get the most of your visit, the tours are not wheelchair friendly unfortunately. The staff are fully invested and knowledgeable. We bought tickets on the day at the start of the season. One of the tour options was cancelled but there were other themes leaving regularly. A 15min slow walk up the hill from the markets but there was plenty of car parking spaces if you drive. There is a cafe and gift shop on site.
A really fascinating piece of WA and Australian history from colonial to modern times. Beautifully preserved only stopped operating as a prison in 1991 and staffed by enthusiastic and friendly people with an amazing wealth of knowledge about the place. Some real characters among the tour guides. One or two should definitely be on stage. A great testament to its popularity is the amazing numbers on all the tours* I've been on in the last three days - even at the start of a wild, wet, windy winter. * I highly recommend the three-tour deal to get a well-rounded understanding of the prison from colonial to modern times, as well as a crash course in some of the more infamous residents. Superb place. Great value.
We had a wonderful experience staying in this unique accommodation. We had a good look at the place and learn a lot about the history of the prison. Very clean and lots of common areas to sit around and chat. Great location and easy to access to Fremantle CBD. Friendly and helpful staff, great value for money , would like to come back again.
