Awesome quality of food products to choose from. Great service, smiling faces, happy people serving. Wonderful. Great prices to choose or not.
Lots of fun and action to be had, my biggest beef here is the parking, if you plan on using the level parking at the market, you need an abundance of patience. People take forever to exit and space is very tight. The food options here are ok, I ordered some food from the food court although I found it a bit underwhelming and there are better options on Barkley Street in my opinion.
Great variety of food and fresh seafood and meat. Fruit n veggies and food court. Close to tram and parking available
It pains me to write this review, since I love the Footscray Market. It's a 5 minute walk from home, and it's the heart of Footscray. But it's SO OVERDUE for some $$ to be spent on the place. I don't care that it looks like a crumbling carpark that was ugly from the day it was built. But I do care that because of poor waste management, the back of the market absolutely reeks by mid-morning in summer. And the mix of stalls needs some attention too: there's a lot of meat and seafood vendors, but your choices are more limited for fruit and veg. I don't want the market to lose its character, but it does need a refresh and some actual improvements.
Footscray Market is a large indoor market with a wide range of fresh produce and general goods, opposite Footscray Railway Station, on the corner of Hopkins Street and Leeds Street, with easy access from Tram 82 or Buses 216, 223, 402, 404, 406. The market is always buzzing with activity, and you'll be able to find produce and products ranging from fresh fruit and vegetable to meats, poultry, fish and seafood to exotic wares like lotus flowers, pigs' ears, and cassava root and other Asian produces. Prices here usually seem to have less logic, the attitude of sellers is that you can take it or just leave it... So if you come here to buy things, expect to find some bargains. If you don't like the price, suggest another one lower. The restaurants here are quite good value, if you like Asian foods. Most of the stall keepers here are Asia, of which Vietnamese count for majority.
Great place to shop! Lots of veg vendors, extensive meat selections - red meat, chicken and seafood. One downside is, there's only one deli. It's a great deli that has a good variety of meats and cheeses though. Would recommend going as early as possible as it does get really busy.
I have to rate this market 5 stars for the sheer variety of stalls, shops, eating places etc as well as the buzz and vitality of the place! Among our favourites are the deli shop, fish stalls with huge variety of fresh seafood and many food outlets offering a variety of Asian cuisine at affordable prices. You can easily spend a few hours on a weekend wandering around this place!
Brilliant market for fresh produce, and Vietnamese goods. Also a few great food options in the food court.
Great value and variety here of fresh produce
My family have been buying meat and vegetables from Footscray market for decades, remembering coming here as a kid, although back then there were alot more businesses on site. In my opinion still a great place to visit for the weekly shop of meat, fruit and veg all at fair and reasonable prices as well as great quality and customer service that seems to be slowly getting lost in the modern times of "self service checkouts", personally I think it's nice when your butcher or green grocer etc, knows you by name, knows what you usually order and so on, or maybe I'm just old school. Also on site are various restaurants and food stalls for a quick bite. Worth a look if you have never been, Quick tip! Saturday mornings are the best time to visit to get the best produce the vendors have to offer... And Saturday afternoon's when the market is winding down at roughly 2:30-3:30pm is the best time to grab a bargain from some of the butchers and seafood vendors as they mark down most of their remaining trays in an effort to sell everything for the day I'm guessing, for example, on numerous occasions I have bought a tray of pork chops of decent cut and size, 6-7 pieces for $5-7, also garlic chilli sausages at roughly 2kg for $4-6 a tray. 2kg tray of chicken wings for $3,Etc etc... many bargains to be found if your timing is right on Saturday afternoon's!!!
