whenever I describe this place I use the following brutally honest line "its not the best food in the world but I do love a buffet". this place looks like it hasnt changed since 1990! the food here is not the greatest, but that being said, there is enough of it that you can always find enough to eat and I always leave full and satisfied. the chocolate sauce it the greatest! last week they had a chicken and potato curry which was also delicious. they have asian food, meat carvary, salad, desert, fish, pasta and more. place seems wheelchair friendly. food, however, is never labelled appropriately or clearly and it is often impossible to know if something is vegetarian or not, making some meal options severely limited for people with dietary requirements. photos: 1: fruit and salad 2: carvery with vegetables, gravy and garlic bread 3: fruit with tiramisu, pavlova, chocolate mousse and chocolate sauce 4: more fruit, mousse and sauce! 5: Pizza, Prawn, Calamari and Salad 6: Spaghetti and Sauce, Calamari and Honey Chicken
I was pretty disappointed. Probably because there wasn't many people there so there was a very slow rotation of food. Almost everything without some sort of liquid base was terrible and dry rice, chips, pizza etc.. Thought it would have been great with a better variety than other all you can eat places but unfortunately most of it was inedible during my visit.
Where do I start... The Reservoir sorry excuse for a restaurant is absolutely horrid. I was charged $26 for what I believed to be value for money... click for more. As it turns out... They don't have filtered or chilled water, I was offered tap water. most of the dishes were shockingly BAD. Please ref my photos for some evidence. The oysters were like rubber and smelled like an old shoe, I tried to bring it to my lips but could not get past the STENCH. I tried a variety of their dishes and one by one they progressively got worse... Their beef should be given to dogs, completely Bland and tasteless. their beef chops were even worse... mostly consisting of 70% fat 20% bone 10% meat. out of the entire buffet they only have two dishes that were somewhat edible... pork roast and the prawns .... the rest was not worth putting on the table much less in front of paying customers. The amenities left a lot to be desired I went in to me disabled toilet only to be assaulted by the smell of urine and a look of a dirty toilet that is likely to not have been cleaned for at least three days... In all reality this particular restaurant would definitely qualify for Chef Ramsay kitchen disasters although I do not believe the owners worthy of the assistance ... In the event that some of you might want to know how much drinks cost at this restaurant I was charged $8 for a jug of Coca-Cola which I believe might have been somewhere around a litre. Up on finishing eating I decided I wanted to have a word with the manager I stopped one of the employees and asked to speak to the manager, I was informed then that they do not have a manager they only have the owner there. This young employee told me to tell him what the problem was when I asked if the owner spoke English he was hesitant in answering and said that I should talk to him and that he will pass on the feedback back to the owner... So I informed him of the poor quality of the food additionally how unimpressed and disappointed I was that they did not have something as basic as filtered water for our customers. Unbeknownst to myself the owner was listening into the conversation he went ahead and said a few things to the employee in their Asian language and then proceeded to address me here is what he said and I quote: "If you don't like the food leave and don't come back ever!" At this point he also took the opportunity to call me fat and told me to never come back and that I would never be welcome in his restaurant ever again. Absolutely horrid experience I recommend you never go to the Reservoir restaurant... OVERALL FOOD RATING 2/10 MANAGEMENT RATING -50/10 I am amazed that the health department has not shut this particular branch of this restaurant down their kitchen leaves a lot to be desired as is the quality of the food the dirty dishes and the dirty cutlery which I also happened to find a hair... Update : My photos of their FILTHY serving dishes have now been removed 4 times. I guess Truth hurts but I think I will post somewhere else to where you cannot have them removed STOP DELETING MY PHOTOS.
Used to come here as a child and was amazing, but now it looks and food tastes like a bad retirement home. Came at 7pm half the food was gone and made us all feel sick afterwards. After you get some food on your plate it gets cold straight away. The best thing there is the icecream machine. No way near worth the price. Biggest rip off and the workers even seem depressed being there.
Rating it 4 stars due to be it's continuous consistency in providing food and service every day and night despite some poor reviews and sometimes absent atmosphere. I feel that this place has potential if it had more business, and more money to spend on renovating or improving food rotation without jacking the price, which is fairly reasonable for an all-you-can eat buffet style restaurant. Also would prefer some more vegetarian options but hey I guess one step at a time.
Myself and a few friends visited Foodstar Reservoir recently and I hate to say, that this was the most horrible experience we have ever encountered. The food was very poor quality and there was not much variety at all, with most food trays empty or only containing bowl scraping or left over crusts/crumbs. We were very diappointed with this experience, given that Foodstar Frankston is a thousand times better in quality and price. My friends and I wanted a refund after not eating much of the food and leaving feeling sick as well as horified at the fact that we paid $26 for rubbish food, such as creamed rice which was basically just rice in an oven dish that had been dried out in an oven, mushy watermelon, curdled 'egg pudding', solidified roast beef, seafood salad containing prawns with the digestive tract present, cold crab two minute noodles dish, just to name a few. The only safe option seemed to be the chips and crackers. To be honest there were also not many people in this restaurant, only about 8 in total, and none of the food was enjoyable at all. We couldnt understand why the food was not of any quality and also very expensive, and lets down the Foodstar name, especially when the Frankston Foodstar is no where near as bad as this place. Most of the foods were also not restocked as well so there were limited options to choose from. The foods were also not at the correct temperature, with the hot foods being at a moist warm temperature, and cold foods like praws also being warm and not fresh. Instead of posting a public review for everyone to see we decided to send this complaint privately the messaging option on the foodstar website was not working meaning that a public review was our only option.
We had a family group book for 1pm on Saturday. We arrived on time, our table was ready the place was pretty empty and we were initially confused because the website says Lunch from 11.30-3pm, but the door says lunch closes at 2.30. As it was we were asked to leave about quarter past 2. As for the actual food - wow - I've never seen such poor quality! Most of it was cold, congealed, and/or only the dregs left. What salads there were only had about 20% of the bowl full at best, and that was limp, or dried out lettuce limp and soggy, greek salad dried out. The mussels looked like they'd been there quite a while and I recommended the other members of our party eschew them for fear of salmonella they weren't very hot. The only food I saw refreshed while we were there was the fried rice. I picked very carefully through stuff, had a little of the fried rice as it was the only food I could be certain was fresh, and ended up only having about half a plate of food. As to the huge range of food the website boasts, well, I can say that only about half of what was listed was actually available. I was excited about having some Sushi, Lasagne and Apple pie... None of these were available. There was some desert available, but the "apple crumble" was no more than a centimeter deep, there was no cake chocolate, coffee or carrot, and no homemade cookies all of which are boasted on the website. Now, I understand that getting toward the end of the lunch period you might expect some things to be missing, but we had a party of 8 people, and booked online to arrive at 1pm. If they were not prepared to ensure food was available for such a booking, why accept it? Others in our party have been to the restaurant before and said it was previously fantastic, but this was a serious disappointment. I would strongly recommend finding somewhere else to go, especially if you're not going to be there right on 11.30am. I'm just pleased the company we were in was fantastic, and it was lovely to catch up with our family, just sorry it was certainly not enhanced by the food... tl:dr - Poor quality, minimal choices, go elsewhere.
I believe this place is now permanently closed. What used to be a fantastic restaurant in its hey day, when it was in the other building close by, sadly went downhill very quickly. I last went there a few months ago, only to take an elderly person there who loved it. It was always her favourite restaurant. Suffice to say, I didn't enjoy the food and yes, warm tap water.
Speaking to the man at the desk was pleasant. He was very gullible, my 40 year old daughter passed for a childs fare. Glasses were clean, and ice was provided for water free of charge. The clean skin wine is of a classic vintage. Reasonable variety of food, the exotic asian cuisuine is fantastic and the fried chicken feet is a chefs speciality found nowhere else in the northern suburbs. Luxurious decorum, mirrors reflected the beautiful colours of the food on display. The managers have put in a lot of effort with the decorative plastic flowers, it gives off a very retro 80s vibe. The waiting staff are most professional and are eager to make you feel at home. The gumball machines provide the perfect after dinner snack. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family.
Is what you pay for. Warm food, place is near empty, need to carve your own dry overcooked meat. Staff presence is near non existent, minimal interactions too. They had salmon though, so that was a plus.
