Great day out with the fam. Weather was spot on too which helped.nPlenty to see and do and a great way to fill in half a day. Only disappointed thing being that the Lolly Shop was out of action! Went in school holidays so there were some great additional kids activities on offer. For the history buffs who like… history and shipwrecks - you’d be in heaven!
The staff at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village are by far the best I've met at a historical site. The workers and volunteers are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. I've been going there once every 2 years my whole life pretty well and I can't wait to see them next time. The Village is well preserved and has so many things to interact with. When you visit you have to try and catch the man working in the woodworkers shop and the lady in the cany store, they are by far my favourites. The man who runs the woodworkers store makes everything by hand himself!
Went on a Sunday and was pretty quiet. No staff working in the buildings - I assume that is a school holiday thing - but was great to navigate all the exhibits in our own time. Plenty of history to explore and a lighthouse to climb! Ticket prices were good value and crosses two days. The village is set on a hill with a cobblestone road that is a little steep. The night show was very well done. The staff were great - provided some good background history. Some of the video was a little '80's' but great on the whole - kids will love it. Small cafe in the village - has light refreshments and toasties.
Never expected there is a hidden gem in warrnambool. Have been to a lot of museums but this was different and I am stunned. The entry ticket though is a bit high but the way the village is maintained and the view which you can see from this place are commendable. The tearoom offers some good milkshakes and snacks which you can have while soaking in the view of the ocean which this place offers. It can easily take 1.5- 2 hours exploring this place. They have a huge gift shop and all the staff are so good. Special kudos to Jane who made my experience a special one. A must visit with your family and friends whenever you are in/ near warrnambool.
Look, maybe I had high expectations and they weren’t realised here, but I will say walking around FlagStaff Hill, it all seemed dead. At least compared to Sovereign Hill they have all workers around, this place had none, making it all seem neglected. On top of that the Lolly shop shut at 1, so you couldn’t visit after lunch. The only good thing was the sound and light show, which is arguably the only thing holding this place together. The food at the little cafe was microwaved to warm it up, which I know because you could hear the beeping.nnNot the top priority when you get to Warrnambool that’s for sure, but if your board, then I’d check it out.
