"Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of one of New Zealand's largest farming museums. Take a stroll through our gardens or picnic under the venerable shady oaks. Learn something of life in a more leisured age through our museum displays housed in 13 buildings.Firth Tower was built in 1882 by Josiah Clifton Firth to provide a lookout over the countryside. It was also used as the estate office and sleeping quarters for single men. The tower stands on rising ground commanding an extensive view of the surrounding country. The Firth Tower Historical Reserve is managed by the Matamata-Piako District Council and museum exhibits and displays are the work of the Matamata Historical Society. The Heritage Centre houses the archives of the Matamata area."

Absolutely worth your time and money to come and visit. My son and I went for a walk and ended up here. After meandering through the whole museum, went through an entrance that wasn't the main entrance, I thought that this is far too good to be free. As it turns out, it is. After emailing them the following ngnday, I quickly deposited the money for the entrance fee as it is definitely worth it even worth more in my opinion. Gives great insight in to many aspects of the history of the area and my son 3 loved looking at everything and going up the tower to check out the view!
There is more than Hobbiton in Matamata, Firth Tower is a place to visit and enjoy. It shows the history of this district which reflects must of the New Zealand’s too. Pleasant green area, old building hosted school, church and even a jail. There’s also a campervan area in the carpark. Worth a visit :
Beautiful place to just sit and contemplate life. The old oak trees are beautiful and the tower is precious. I'd never been here before til yesterday and I wish I'd been sooner
Nice place to visit if you're in the area. Tells you everything of the area and it's history. Amazing collection of farming equipment and how they use to live back in the days...
Being new to the area had a lovely couple of hours around the museum. Some really fascinating information and great to learn about the original families and businesses in the area some of which are still here today. Will definitely be returning to explore further.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We held our wedding here recently and were absolutely thrilled with the entire process. Amy, who helped co-ordinate everything and her team went above and beyond to make our special day memorable. The venue itself was a perfect setting and just what we were after with an historic, rustic country theme. We arranged a beautiful picnic lunch under the trees with the wedding ceremony on the verandah of the villa. So many awesome options for photographs as well. We found the organisation, communication and every aspect of Firth Tower and Amy and her team to be brilliant, and highly recommend to all! Thanks so much.
Awesome day out with the kids. Lovly picnic lunch.. highly recommend.
