"Fan-Tan's cuisine is a fusion of European, NZ, Pacifica food with flavours influenced from Asia.Fan-Tan is a story of East meets West. The name orignates from the game, long played in China with beans or pebbles and evokes Arrowtown’s goldrush history, when, in the 1860’s Chinese miners brought their own gambling games to the goldfields.It is simple delicious food, easily shared or enjoy main plates. We hope as our name suggests, our food “brings a sense of joy, pleasure and entertainment”."

Wait staff is superb! Great place to break bread as a large group or smaller. They'll look after you and fill your puku with scrummy dishes. We had a bit of everything and I was quite satisfied. I wasn't a fan of the cocktails on the list mainly because I like my drinks sickingly sweet and the bar tender was nice enough to meet the brief and concoct my very own customised cocktail - this was a highlight for sure. I'll be going back for sure based on this first experience.
A combination of amazing food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere makes for the perfect night out! The 5 course chef's choice was particularly good value for $55 per person and we ended up with 9 separate dishes!! Chef's were more than willing to accommodate dietary requirements. We'll be back.
Absolutely superb food. We had baos for starters and then chicken curry for main. Both were excellent. Thoroughly recommended.
What an amazing evening! Inviting ambiance, amazing, friendly service and perfection in every bite!! A must eat at when in Arrowtown!!
Overpriced for what it is, not particularly tasty either. The tuna entree at $19 is more expensive than some entire meals I've had, which were both more substantial and enjoyable.The music choice was also fairly odd. Service was good though, very quick, and the staff were friendly.
Just finished a beautiful dinner out in the courtyard. Lots of interesting flavours from charcoal bao buns filled with pork belly and tuna tataki starters to fall off the bone sticky ribs and tender beef curry mains. Only regret was not listening to the server when she warned one dumpling each wouldn't be enough. ;
Everything about this place was fantastic. The food was some of the best we have had, the staff were all friendly and had great energy and the relationship they had with Blue Door bar next door meant I could try a bunch of craft beers I had never had the chance to try. We did the trust the chef me u and it was amazing value and everything was top tier delicious. We will absolutely be back next time we are in the region!
My partner and I came here last night whilst on a short holiday from Melbourne and the food was amazing! The staff were super friendly too. Only a few vegetarian options on the menu but if you ask the staff, the chefs will kindly alter some of the meat dishes so that there are more vego options to choose from! Would definitely recommend.
Couldn't have had a more delicious birthday dinner. Amazing service and quality of food. We did trust the chef and everything was delicious and high quality.. my only recommendation would be to bring out the veges or salads with the meats and curry to balance things out.
Exceptionally good food. A group of us ate there last night before a movie and every dish was delicious. Sauces were all flavourful and everything cooked perfectly.
