Such a fascinating place, so much to see and learn! We popped in for a quick visit and were amazed by how big it is, we spent ages exploring. Lots of displays to interest all ages!
What a wonderful place to have a break on a road trip!nThe cafe is what you notice from the road and it's great too, with tasty, fresh, good value meals and snacks. The coffee is excellent! The museum's modest appearance from the road is very misleading as there are some enormous buildings behind with impressive collections of cars and machinery, plus some excellent military exhibits. There's a fascinating separate exhibition about jetboats and their creator, Bill Hamilton I hadn't known anything about him but he's a real NZ hero .nThe collection of wagons and carriages from the colonial period is really great and the displays of early kitchens and household goods was a good reminder of how everyday life has changed. We were there for 2 hours and could have easily spent more time. Great value for the modest $10 admission charge, it's run by volunteers !nWell worth a stop if you're in Fairlie.
The museum is well worth a visit, you will need cash for entry.nThe cafe is an absolute must, the chicken and Mushroom pie is delicious.nIt is crammed full of chicken and mushies all made freshly on site.nThe pies are $8 with chips.nAll food is made on site.nA wonderful fire for chilly winter days.
Amazing! We thought that we were just popping into a small museum, but the rooms and sheds kept coming! Loved looking at the cars, machinery, and more! Staff were friendly and welcoming. Would recommend!
Traveled past for thirty years. Called in today, vastly bigger complex than we thought. A large range of memorabilia well worth a visit. Plus as a cafe for a snack or lunch.
