"Fairburn Ings protects a mixture of habitats. Wetland areas created by subsidence include open water, wet grassland, reedbed and wet woodland. While other habitats, including dry grassland, deciduous woodland and lagoons, have been restored on the former coal spoil tips.Our site team carefully manages these habitats to keep Fairburn rich in wildlife.We have a visitor centre, parking, refreshments, wildlife trails, viewing areas.Dogs are welcome on site but they must be kept on a lead to avoid disturbing the wildlife."

An rspb reserve that has plenty to do for the little ones. A play area with den building and an area for pond dipping there’s plenty for them to keep entertained whilst you try and spot a kingfisher. Well laid out great walks and interesting views close to selby. Good cafe with very helpful staff team .
This is a great oasis of calm! There are several different pathways around ponds and lakes, a visitor's center with toilets, cafe and shop and car park, hides for bird watching, and bird feeding stations too. Wether you take a picnic or wonder off to a local pub for a bite to eat or even just walk the dog it's a great space. The site also links to the Aire & Calder navigation and has access paths to Castleford and surrounding villages.
Really wonderful day out, a variety of birds and habitats, very friendly helpful staff, good accessibility and reasonable food selection for lunch
