Errrr, not a lot to say about this one. Tony, the owner is a hell of a nice guy, but the food is bland and boring. It’s not real Chinese food, it’s a sub-par attempt at What Western people think Chinese should taste like. I wish I could give it more stars, but that’s not going to happen. Drive another 45 minutes to Melbourne and get a decent meal there.
It was time for dinner in Gisborne and I was on the look out for Chinese. I saw Emperor Tang Restaurant and decided to eat there. I was the only dining in customer, but there were several takeaway customers patiently waiting. The ambience is very pleasant and wait staff very attentive. I had the prawn dumplings which were just right. Next was the shredded boneless duck which was delicious. Well worth a visit.
We love it, it's local, open 6 days per week and the food is great. Everything is cooked fresh, the menu is extensive and you can BYO without being charged a fortune for corkage. The short soup is exceptional, the san choi bao as good as I have had and the tofu with snow peas is delicious. My partner usually orders duck which he loves but has enjoyed many of the items on the menu. The staff are lovely and always make us feel very welcome. If you are in a hurry, you need to let them know but if you enjoy a relaxing dinner with good food, it's perfect.
We've been a fan of Emperor Tang's for many years. They have that little bit of 'class' that is lacking in some local Chinese restaurants. White tablecloths, candles and not too crowded, plus a specials board with some really nice dishes. I recommend, matter of fact, I'm going there tonight!
The ONLY place in Gisborne with good Chinese food. Nice and clean. Marvellous chef, Tony. I am a chef and would not eat elsewhere. Simply, THE BEST !!
One generous star. Over an hours wait for sub-par meal. Only ones in the restaurant and half the items were not available. Food was not worth the wait. Not recommended for dine in or take away.
The food is really nice not overly priced you can afford to take the whole family which is a bonus for the average working people these days
Excellent, healthy tasting Chinese food with good variety & options for vegan/GF.
Excellent food and beautiful service. Thank you Tony his mum and friends.
Tony we wiill be back to spend a voucher soon great meal last time
