Nice walk around the lake and in the bush. Ample parking spaces and pet friendly environment. Free entrance and open 24 hours. Just few minutes drive from Gippsland heritage park if you're visiting the Latrobe region from Melbourne. You could also visit Narracan waterfalls which is also few minutes drive from here
Lovely spot. Well cared for by the reserve committee of volunteers. My only wish would be for toilets
Quite a nice reserve with lots of walking tracks through bushland in the heart of Moe. Close to public transport. Heart for a picnic or to ride a bike. Very quiet with lots of birds around the lake.
Fantastic place and a hidden gem in Latrobe Valley, suits walkers and trail runners - plenty of tracks and tonnes of elevation
Small little wetland, can go around the pond on a board walk, couple of picnic tables
Lovely walk through the forest surrounding the lake. Has a nice raised walkway you can take your time strolling along.
Found this little hidden gem just out of Moe Moe South. Native bush land with multiple walking tracks and a pond with ducks and other bird life. Beautiful place. Small carpark off the main road but access is located at various points for those on foot. There is a small shelter near the main carpark entrance and table and chairs if you fancy a picnic next to the pond. A bit of historical information is provided on signs/boards within the carpark area as well. There’s a man-made ‘boardwalk’ style walkway that extends around circumference of the pond. Quite hilly in parts, but there are tracks that are flat only. Not wheelchair accessible unfortunately and no toilet facilities from what I could see. Dog-friendly on-leash only.
There are not many places left on the northside of the Strzelecki Ranges where native vegetation is being activly preserved. Farms, plantations, roads and houses are forever encroaching on what little there is. Edward Hunter Reserve is one such place, almost surrounded now, it has weathered many past uses and some neglect. Today though it retains substantial elements of mature native remnant and regrowth lowland forest and damp gully systems. A network of well maintained walking tracks with up to date signage make for a pleasant walk at any time of year and or day. Native animals and birds use the reserve as a refuge and if you're lucky can be glimpsed when quietly exploring the varied habitat. Wildflowers are also in profusion especially in the spring, with many species of orchids to be seen throughout the year. Tall Treefern thickets form under a canopy of shading eucalyptus trees. On the more open slopes between the Stringybark and Pepermint trees, Acacia, Banksia, Xantheria, Heath and Pea flowering species are scattered through a grassy groundcover. Edward Hunter Reserve is a great place to escape the busy streets, so try a slow quiet walk with a camera or pack a picnic lunch and enjoy nature at it's best. But please stick to the made tracks, don't pick any flowers or damage any vegetation, take all your rubbish home and respect others right to the peace and quiet. Motorbikes are not welcome. And active voluntary committee helps maintain the reserve and are always happy to have extra help. Contact the Latrobe City Council for more details.
It was beautiful and serene, many type of duck swimming on the lake andost importantly, dog friendly!
Great spot to take a walk with the family or your pets, and not to far from the town center. Well worth it, offers off street parking to boot.
