About We're the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. We are Australia's 'living' archive – the custodian of over 2.3 million audiovisual items that we collect, preserve, and share in many diverse ways. Story The NFSA is open Monday to Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. We are also open Friday nights, weekends and public holidays for advertised events. See Events for details. Our Library is open Wednesday 2:30–4:30 pm. We are Australia's 'living' archive – the custodian of over 2.3 million items that we not only collect, but preserve for future generations and share in many diverse ways. The NFSA collection holds more than 2.3 million works, including films, television and radio programs, videos, audio tapes, records, compact discs, phonograph cylinders and wire recordings. It also encompasses documents and artefacts such as photographs, posters, lobby cards, publicity items, scripts, costumes, props, memorabilia, oral histories, and vintage equipment.
