About John Fawkner Private Hospital is a 147 bed major surgical, medical and emergency hospital located in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs. Story John Fawkner Private Hospital’s reputation as the facility of choice for the people of Melbourne’s north-west is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our friendly and highly trained nursing staff, health professionals and accredited private specialists. Formerly Sacred Heart Hospital, it was built by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and opened its doors in September 1939. At that time, Sacred Heart was perhaps best known as a maternity hospital and the midwifery unit was the third busiest in Victoria. Today, our hospital is a 147 bed major surgical, acute medical and emergency hospital located in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs. Equipped for a comprehensive range of surgical procedures, medical treatment and diagnostic services, we are recognised by both the local community and visiting medical fraternity as contributing to the provision of a high level of patient care and support. We expect all our nursing staff, health professionals and accredited private specialists to contribute to the provision of the best standards of care for our patients and this means getting the fundamentals right too.
