With the vision of providing the early pioneers of Auckland and beyond with quality merchandise at good value and with impeccable service.On the back of such success and the increasing prosperity of the business, Marianne was joined in 1881 by her husband and fellow draper William Henry Smith. The following year Marianne’s brother Andrew Clarke Caughey was also invited by the couple to join them and in October 1882 a partnership and Smith & Caughey, was established.Today, 140 years later, Smith & Caughey’s remains one of New Zealand’s best-loved department stores."
