Insightful and very informative public tour. Learned a lot about the community, the roots, and the history. Enjoyed the conversation along with an opportunity to sit back at the end and chat to residents over lunch they themselves kindly prepared for us. Got a lot of the morning. Recommend the public tour for anyone wishing to learn more about these neighbourhoods.
We stayed there for a memorial weekend for my sister who used to live there and died twenty years ago.nWe stayed in the guest room in the common house building, which was basic, but clean and tidy. The same with the bathroom next door, but it had plenty of railings, which was great for my husband, who has problems with his balance. We could also use the kitchen and dining room in the common house. Friday night we had dinner with my niece who has recently moved into a unit at Earthsong and my nephew. Saturday night there was a shared meal at the common house which they have twice a week, for those who want to go, so we joined in.nSunday we had a housewarming lunch at the common house for my niece and their flatmate, with about 30 odd attending. It was lovely and sunny, so we all sat at tables and chairs outside and had a lovely afternoon. After lunch, we had a tour of Earthsong. There are 32 houses there and a tiny house near the front of the property, occupied by about 67 people of all ages. There are are gardens around the rows of semi detached houses. There are also a few bits of lawn and jungle gym and swing for the children plus an old playhouse, and a pond at the back of the property.nOn Sunday night we had a memorial dinner and shared a video, slides, photos and memories all at the common house. We had a wonderful time there. If you want to see more about the philosophy and building of the place you can google Earthsong Econeighbourhood.
Thirty two households living in private homes within a supportive intentional community. A fantastic and healthy way to have a good life. The property has four mobility friendly homes ie ground floor and with no stairs. The large Common House is wheelchair accessible with a large toilet room and accessible kitchen. The paths are a gentle gradient. Access to the orchard and chooks is a bark path and not so easy but possible with help. The small upstairs quiet room in the Common House is the only non mobility accessible space and the community members will happily move meetings to a downstairs space. PS I was active in the design and physical build and creation of Earthsong Eco Neighbourhood as a socially sustainable community. I moved into my new rammed earth home in 2001 and still think its a great way to live a healthy socially connected way of life.
i went to an open day and was blown away by the beauty of the place. Most residents had thriving gardens and the rammed earth and solid timber buildings were like an art gallery - loved it
Went to a public tour and found it very interesting. A different way to live in the city.
