I didn't realise the pie was a thing so we didn't order - will do so next time. It was quite late on a work night so only a couple of people around, so difficult to judge ambiance. I think the feel would be "warmer" with a few more people. I like the quirky minimalist fit out, although at least one pot plant could do with some attention SOS. I was totally compelled by the train journey projection, which added a hypnotic quality to the experience. Will review this review after I've returned for pie at a more popular time PS: I like the name and didn't feel patronised by it like another reviewer seemed to be. I think more people should be aware of the DK Effect
Love this place! Great service, excellent food and drink. Had the Lemon curd pie matched with a cocktail and it was delicous. Had a great chat with the bar tender, really nice guy
Yes! This place was an unexpected gem! Very quiet for most of Thursday night but that was fine with us. The decor looked very simple and cold but the venue was warm and inviting. Even some subtle projection art to add to the scene. The platters were plated with perfection and great quality ingredients. While I stuck with wine, my friends enjoyed the boilermaker options and cocktails. Service was great, friendly but never interrupted our focused banter, haha.
This gem of a bar offers a small, regularly-rotated selection of local beer, loads of spirits options plus homemade PIE! Also sparkling water on arrival for a classy touch. Gene & co are wonderfully welcoming and have listened to me & my mates talk rubbish across the bar more often than we deserve. Love this joint.
Right now the pie there is chocolate, raspberry and pistachio. Don't go there and eat it, please, as I'm hoping there'll be a slice left when I go back tomorrow. As usual the drinks are excellent and the bartender is happy to engage you in entertaining conversation, or let you be - whatever you fancy.
Came for the pie and stayed for the ... terrible ambience, bad service, and the spoiled side of cream that came with it. Wait, I mean left. We left and will not be coming back. Ambience: 0 stars The place was literally so dark I thought it was closed. Food: 1 stars Ordered the pie with a side of cream and inquired about what cheese was on the cheeseboard, only to be informed they didn't actually have enough cheese to make a cheeseboard. When the pie came the cream was literally off and pretty disgusting which ruined the whole experience. We didn't get a replacement pie or replacement cream as the bartender was too busy. See service review for info on the service element. I'll admit the pie wasn't actually terrible, though a bar that continues to promote itself as a "pie" destination should have more than 1 pie flavour on offer. Service: 0 stars The bartender did clean our table and offer us a menu when we walked in which seems like it could be good service. But then proceeded to ignore us for quite a long time while he was busy chatting to two girls sitting at the bar. We had to interrupt his conversation to order as he did not really take notice of my friend idling at the bar to order. After he brought us our pie, we realised the cream that came with our pie was off and informed him. He told us he would bring us more cream. He returned to chatting to the girls at the bar and spent the next 10 minutes chatting to said girls. After 10 minutes he decided to try the cream himself to see if it was really off, and assuming from his face it was. We gave up waiting for our cream and left.
Great bar, bartender had great knowledge about every drink on offer and was able to make a drink to cater to our mood/needs. Awesome chilled place to relax and enjoy a drink made by an enthusiast.
They know how to make a great cocktail. Friendly bar staff. Went late one night, bartender threw in a free slice of superb rhubarb pie; delicious. Definitely be back.
A wonderful little bar, we're so happy that this is our local. Gene is such a great guy and barman, the drinks are superb, and there's PIE. 10/10.
Great vibes, great tap offerings on rotation and a choice selection of wines and Top shelf.Gene the owner a great fella and a good source of knowledge on all things beverage.
