An excellent restaurant that doesn't put a foot wrong, even though the output of the kitchen could be described as slightly insane. The young whizkids at Duke match the most unlikely of ingredients or make the most mundane of things utterly spectacular. Dishes I have eaten there include 'peas', 'carrots', and 'watermelon' - and for all the above my reaction was "I didn't know it could do that!" The dishes are designed to be shared, and I think comparing notes with your dining companions really adds to the experience. It's cheaper than similar restaurants and the adventure of not knowing what you're in for also makes it a better night out. Pro-tip: the house wines are sensational and make eating here even better value. The service is excellent as well, a cut above. Duke makes me very happy indeed.
Sitting on top of The Flinders Hotel, The Duke Bistro is a quirky, chic venue for dates seeking a unique and inventive menu without having to splash out on something like Tetsuya's in fact, one of the chefs is ex-Tetsuya's themselves. The overall menu puts contemporary spins on traditional home classics like their Cauliflower, Provolone, Radicchio, Salami dish i.e. fancy cheese and cauliflower, but uses ingredients from cuttlefish ink through to pig's tail to deliver them in ways that you've never tasted before; the perfect venue for the girl who considers herself a bit of a foodie.
Definitely not worth the hype - I don't have a single positive thing to say. The service was inattentive, and at times downright rude. The food was overpriced, with tiny portions. I was seriously considering a post-dinner burger the whole way through! Out of the 5 dishes we had, I was only impressed with one of them duck breast with bitter greens, and bread sauce. Everything else was watery and underseasoned carrot soup with spanner crab, salt roasted parsnip with buttermilk and japaneo. The petit fours at the end were tasty enough, but one in particular seemed to have been a sort of caramel fish sauce. *NOT* a good way to end a meal.
great food all around. the food is meant to be shared: we had 8 people and had nearly everything on the menu! have a tasting menu every tuesday with their latest creations.
I didn't love it, but it seems like every guy I've talked to who has been - loves it. Guy food for sure. Definitely get the fried chicken...do not get the beets.
Really good club. Nice peoples and lots of party
