Drummoyne Bakehouse Cafe

About

http://drummoynesbakehousecafe.com.au/ The best cafe & bakery in the Inner West of Sydney. It was started in 1995 on a belief that good, quality food is an essential part of life, so shortcuts are not allowed.

Story

When Carla and Colin first opened the doors of Drummoyne’s Bakehouse Cafe back in 1995, they had a simple dream. They wanted to provide a friendly, cosy atmosphere where guests could enjoy delicious, quality baked goodies and coffee. They couldn’t have imagined just how popular this humble cafe would become.
Today, foodies from all over Sydney are flocking to the Bakery Cafe to get their hands on the famous breads, cakes and treats. Everything is made from scratch and baked to order. High demand means high turnover, so a team of skilled pastry chefs are kept busy throughout the day.
This caring family business has many long-term staff that have worked at the cafe since the beginning. Colin is a highly qualified chef with nearly 30 years experience in the kitchen. Head chef, Mark, who completed his apprenticeship with the cafe when he was 18, is now master of the breads and pastries. Liz has also been with the cafe since the early days. As a pastry chef extraordinaire, she is responsible for creating the many magnificent cakes and treats on offer. Carla’s parents are invaluable members of the team and have long played a big part in creating a positive, friendly atmosphere at the cafe.

Went there on the weekend and the place is pretty busy but waiting time is reasonable. They have many varieties or options to choose depending what you feel like. Got three different cakes with a coffee this time to try, next time will probably try out their pies. Cakes are well presented and also tasty. Staffs are friendly. There's outdoor seating as well if you have a dog. Would like to have the tag of food name and price next to the item which will be easier to see what they are rather than looking up the signs. Overall is pretty good.
Such a lovely place ! Great good also, and smells delicious when you walk in Had a lovely brunch today, as per attached photos - the juice was also awesome. Staff are super friendly and efficient. Highly recommend
One of the best sausage rolls I've ever had. The base of the Blueberry cheesecake is a bit overpowering but the cake itself is quite good
Absolutely the best pies in town. Friendly service, clean food and space. Fresh variety of baked goods, a sandwich bar and sweet treats. It's a local gem, love taking the kids past in the morning for a meat pie and milkshake before school. The coffee is great also.
These guys have the best food and coffee going around. The meat pies are second to none and the coffee is pretty damn good to. But one thing I love is they dont forget about our fury kids either. They always welcome my dog and have water ready after his run or walk. Thanks guys
Tried an assortment of sweet and savoury pastries from here - they were all delicious!! Flaky, buttery, pastry and quality fillings for the sausage roll, lamb rosemary pie and cheese spinach roll. Coffees were also great, not too milky my personal preference.Food: 5/5
The breads and pies here are great. Some of the sweets like the profiteroles and cannoli tasted like they were made from frozen bases. I found that the breakfasts were a bit average though with poached eggs being over cooked and served with small regular toasted bread which was a bit disappointing for a bakery cafe. Some of the staff were really friendly and helpful while others were clumsy and a little bit abrupt. For the bakery I would definitely come back here but never again for the cafe. Edit: 21/4/22 - After a few years I was in the area again and stopped by to get some lunch. They have a great range of pies and other baked goods to choose from. The mexican pie tasted ok, but was overcooked, a little dry and had almost more cheese than meat in it. I would still rate 3 stars.
Best pies in Sydney hands down! Amazingly tasty pies full of flavour and ingredients. So many mouth watering pastries and cakes to choose from.
I ordered the steak sandwich for $14.50 plus $0.25 they charge extra for paying with card without mentioning the card surcharge. The best thing about this sandwich was the focaccia bread. It was freshly baked and tasty, however, the steak was so thin that I question whether it is worth $14.75.
Good coffee. However, we ordered a chicken schnitzel sandwich. It was stale and cold. We asked for our already cut slightly mangled sandwich to be retoasted. Instead of giving us a replacement as a good business practice, they toasted the existing mangled sandwich. When they served the retoasted sandwich we complained and the waitress said she didn't make it and said she could tell the girl. We also had a palmier pastry which was flavourless, hard and overbaked.
