Walking into Dragon Chef, you’re immediately embraced by a vibrant and traditional Bhutanese atmosphere. The walls are beautifully decorated with colorful artwork, including portraits of the Bhutanese King, which give the space an authentic cultural feel. A large TV streams important events from Bhutan, and there’s even a cozy live music corner that comes alive on weekends, adding to the charm.nnI tried their buffet menu on my first visit, and every dish was comforting and flavorful, reminiscent of home-cooked meals. The butter tea was a pleasant surprise and definitely worth trying. They also have an extensive à la carte menu offering momos, noodles, rice dishes, and more. If you’re in the mood for a drink, their bar has a good selection to accompany your meal.nnThe seating is another highlight, sofa-style chairs with soft cushions make the dining experience extra comfortable and inviting.nnI had the pleasure of chatting with the owner, who was incredibly warm and shared the inspiring story of how he built the restaurant. It added a personal and memorable touch to the visit.nnHonestly, I don’t understand the negative reviews about the buffet setup. My experience was fantastic : great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and wonderful hospitality. Dragon Chef is an easy five-star recommendation for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Bhutanese cuisine in Perth :
Authentic Bhutanese ambiance paired with heartwarming, homestyle dishes and traditional music—truly feels like a home away from home.nnEvery detail, from the flavors to the soothing Bhutanese melodies, brings the spirit of Bhutan to life. A must-visit for anyone craving a genuine taste of Bhutanese culture, cuisine, and hospitality.
Decked out with large photo prints on the walls, intricate traditional artwork on the walls and columns, big couches, a live stage and a TV playing Bhutanese music, this Bhutanese restaurant is unique and inviting.nnThe food on offer centres around a buffet, but there is an a la carte side dish menu available with some dishes including dumplings available that you could eat instead as well as alcoholic beverages. The rustic buffet flavours were uniquely good, tasting simple yet flavourful although many dishes were spicy so it's best to only go for the buffet if you can handle it. However, whilst the flavours were something to try, the meats were generally tough and dry and not the most pleasant to eat enough to make me rank some of the vegetarian dishes as being better.nnService from the waitresses was very pleasant, and the overall experience great for a night out even though an improvement in the buffet food would be welcome.
Horrible experience. I went to this restaurant for their buffet today, and it was an absolute disaster. The food was beyond terrible. A lot of the curries were missing, and the ones that were available were so oily they were practically inedible. It was like they didn’t even care about the quality of the food they were serving.nWhat made it worse was the butter tea—there wasn’t any! It was finished, and not a single staff member bothered to refill it the entire time I was there. How can you have a buffet and not restock the items? That’s just basic service.nnAnd the price? $40 per person for this! I couldn’t believe it. For $40, you expect a good selection and decent quality, but instead, I got missing food, oily curries, and zero effort from the staff. It felt like a complete rip-off. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere.
$40 per person for the buffet. Can not order a single dish yet. So if u have a smaller appetite, better ring them first. But the food is very authentic and good. Good customer service, too. There is a lot of car parking at night time. Good atmosphere like u in Bhutan now.
