The facility is worn out. Last renovated in 1993. Air conditioning didn't work, broken oil heater in the room. Bathroom shower rail broken, toilet roll holder gone. Nurses seemed friendly but way over stretched, and worked to the bone with limited time for patients. Raised my concerns with management with no response. Recommend researching for modern facilities before staying hear...
I read a lot of negative reviews so I was a but dubious about coming to Dorset. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I cannot fault the place or the care. I had a lovely private room with a window looking out to the outside garden. The food was excellent. The nurses wonderful. The physio was very good with lovely caring workers. Oh and the food was really good. I tried to think of some negatives about the place and it was impossible. Many thanks to everyone at Dorset for giving me an excellent experience.
I arrived at Dorset Rehab Centre four days after I had a spinal fusion at John Fawkner Hospital.nUpon arriving I was advised by staff the room was warm and was told they had an old air conditioning system which doesn’t work the best. I was also advised this has previously been raised with management and that the staff had requested fans for the rooms and this request was not accommodated.nnAfter being in the health sector myself for almost 15 years, it seemed as though the staff on duty were not trained in accordance with any standards. There were nurses who did not introduce themselves and took a long time to attend to my room during times of need.nnI had to leave the room with my walker as it was extremely hot with minimal to no air circulating in the room. I went to front reception and took a seat. I was offered a tissue as the receptionist had seen that I was upset and asked if I was okay. I told her my room was extremely hot and the staff are extremely rude.nnThe in charge nurse later approached me and I told her what I thought of the whole place and my treatment. I was extremely dissatisfied with they way things were. I was so upset and stressed. I knew I wasn’t going to have a smooth recovery if I stayed here. My treating nurse, the receptionist and the in charge nurse were all aware of the way I was feeling.nnWhen my husband visited me, the purchased a fan and brought that with him as he was aware of the temperature of the room.nnAfter addressing my feelings, I noticed a slight change in staff behaviour. There were some nurses acknowledging me taking care of me and would talk to me and ask if I needed anything.nnMy mattress in my room was also replaced during my short stay at this clinic. The nurse said the mattress sounds like it’s on its last legs. If this is known then it should not be in a room where patients are recovering post op, especially in my situation after I’ve just had a spinal cushion and can only lay on my back. The mattress caused sever discomfort to me and impacted my recovery. I was awake from 4am in the morning walking down the corridors in pain as I could not bare the discomfort of remaining on the mattress. My mattress was replaced with an air mattress.nnI noticed on Friday afternoon a gentleman was holding a black Pomeranian inside the rehab centre. I asked him are you allowed to have dogs here and he said yes of course you can. The receptionist also confirmed this with me after I had double checked with her. She advised it was all part of rehab. My husband later bought our little Pomeranian which is housetrained. Later that evening, the nurse looking after me came into my room. The nurse rudely said what’s the dog doing here I said what do mean I was told after seeing a dog early it was ok she said no it’s not. I said okay I didn’t know that if I have known what you’re telling me the dog wouldn’t be here to begin with. Later that evening I overheard the same nurse who was looking after me talking to another patient about me and what occurred earlier in my room. Where is the Patient Confidentiality!!!nnI was meant to be here for seven days and I was only here from Tuesday to Saturday morning as I was under so much stress and felt so tense and anxious during my stay. I was meant to be here for seven days. This was meant to be a place for me to recover post op. I signed myself out of clinic due to the multiple reasons above.nnI am not one to leave reviews however my experience at this place was unforgettable and for no good reasons.
I recently had a, back fusion performed. I spent 10 days here and cannot fault this place. Staff of all shifts were fantastic. Not sure how this only rates 2.7 but hard to please all. The help I was given even in the basic needs were done without question. It may llok old but don't judge this place on that. It is the care given that is the main thing. Special mention to Maggie for her OT help.
Terrible place, don't go there.nnThe little psychologist there is crazy.nI was sent there by my local doctor because of a work injury. The nurses at Dorset would ask me if I was in pain and when I would answer yes they will give me dirty looks and say that it's my opinion, she would ask me every five minutes and say the same thing.nThe little lady psychologist would only talk about herself and the injury she had suffered in a car smash, if you questioned anything she would go crazy. Her injury didn't effect the loss of her job or money, as mine did, she just wouldn't listen.nI was getting treated worse at Dorset than I did at Workcover and going home angry after each visit.nNothing was private at Dorset with any of the staff being able to read your file.nI was polite at all times but this psychologist kicked me out of her office for asking questions, I then find her telling the receptionist what a bad person I was.nI think she is the one who needs help or if she doesn't like her job she should go back to working with Scooby Doo.
