The drinks are amazing! Went for happy hour and there are some pretty good deals. Lost one star because the vibe isn’t super inviting. Honestly, it’s probably the lighting. Instead of feeling like I’m at a cozy intimate bar which it is, I feel like I’m either being interrogated or shopping at Walmart. Switch from the “day light” lights to a warm white and it would totally change the space and achieve the ambience I believe they are going for.
I’m a big fan of Captain Gregory’s, so of course I had to try Railbird. Delicious drinks & food, great service, and a darn good fried chicken sandwich! Great atmosphere as well. Definitely check it out!
A great place for happy hour. They have discounted cocktails and shareables. The cocktails are made by the same people as captain Gregory's so it's a great alternative if you can't get in to the speakeasy plus they have more food!Food: 5/5
Really cool cocktail bar! They have an awesome happy hour and really good cocktails. If you like smokey or unique cocktails this is a great place to go. They can make more traditional cocktails too. The food was excellent! The bartender was friendly and fast at taking orders and making drinks.Food: 5/5
Good afternoon, Alexandria, VA and Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area residents and visitors. Today was my first time at Railbird Kitchen and I am very glad I made the trip. I do live in Alexandria, VA, but in the West End of the city and it can be a hike, as they say, on Saturdays because Duke Street is extremely busy with traffic. But the restaurant is 100 percent worth the trip to North Old Town, Alexandria. I was a customer of the prior businesses in this location, including Elizabeth’s Counter and Sugar Shack Doughnuts both operated by an outstanding proprietor. The same proprietor operates Railbird Kitchen. I should tell you a little bit about myself. Almost nine years ago, I dropped 70 pounds and have maintained that weight loss. I cannot really have a full, hard carbohydrate-heavy meal – because, to be frank, after I eat it, my body ends up hibernating like a bear. My body has changed so much that I really notice this difference if I have something that is extremely heavy on grease, salt, or heavy carbohydrates For example, the last time I had pizza was in December 2022. I haven’t had a burger since July 2022.. Not to worry, however, about Railbird Kitchen. There are several good items on the menu. There is a variety of chicken sandwiches and many vegan dishes. Today, I had the shrimp tempura and some tater tots – I was extremely pleased that there was no heavy salt. And I plan to try the cabbage pancake and the roasted cauliflower on my next visit maybe I will get the courage to try the chicken sandwich. The point is that you can healthy at this restaurant, which is key for me. The customer service was outstanding. Brandon answered all of my questions – and he was pleasant while doing so. And he was great person to have a conversation with, too. Because I’ve been working hard in graduate school, I haven’t gotten out to restaurants as much I’d like to – but that’s going to change for the second half of 2023. A big thank you for changing and adding your hours for weekend lunch – very good food. Parking: There is plenty of parking
The food and drinks were excellent. However, the service was slow we had to ask for napkins, silverware, and water and this sounds weird, but the lighting was so bright white it was giving us headaches. I suggest they change to Warm lighting, otherwise the Cool lighting makes it feel like a doctors office. Especially since they have a very monochromatic design style. I would order food from here again, but I would not eat it there.
Cool vibe. Limited outdoor, open seating that’s pet friendly. We enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and deviled eggs but were smitten with the cabbage pancake. Very good cocktails and mocktails!Recommended dishesCabbage Pancake, Banh MI, Ribbon Fries
Outstanding cocktails and great food! The hen wings and hot maple chicken sandwich are exceptional. A must-try spot.
Great spot for delicious drinks and tasty food! Definitely a new favorite spot!
