Nice find above the Boheme restaurant. Saw the big band on a Wednesday night. Fun music if pretty informal from very seasoned musicians. Steak was ok. Salmon was nice. The vibe was alright, though not intimate like The Paris Cat Jazz Cafe.
We never had the chance to review this. We booked on Dizzy’s website, and booked a hotel room to stay overnight on Anzac Day 25th April - after checking in we got an email cancelling the event due to the public holiday. The date April 25th has been a public holiday for 100 years! A fact apparently lost on Dizzy’s. Why did they advertise the event that night. We will get a refund but that’s small comfort after we travelled in especially for a night out for my husband who is a big jazz fan. Too late to find another venue. Not happy
This is a true place for leisure. Great place for jazz, with talented musicians and amazing school bands. I can't wait to come back for their next best live performance.
Call me a music snob, but last nights performance was far from what I expected. I realise it is a new venue for the crew, but c'mon at least make sure the singer has a front of house PA set up, and not just muffled noise coming from the guitar amp under the unused piano! And on the the guitar - treble levels way too high, even the sax player was having trouble with the hole set up and he was definitely the standout performer. A bit more practice together guys and please work on your endings - trailing off with a flutter of the fingers on the base on every number does not make for crisp clean full stops and just makes you look unpolished. If I was the only one who left before the second half I would not be saying anything, but there were a few more before me. Good Luck guys, I hope you manage to get it together and at least get a bit tighter. Please take this as constructive criticism.
I wish more people knew about this place. Its perfect for those who want to just sit back and relax with a small group of friends. The jazz is devine, if it were closer to home I would be there every week.
Surely one of the best swing bands in Melbourne, up there with Darryl McKenzie's Jazz Orchestra and Blackburn High Big Band
Great little jazz venue. Amazing food! Love it all.
