If you love an American diner then head to Route66 nestled in the corner of Saxon Square. Pancake stacks, waffles, milkshakes and a delicious selection of cheesecakes. It’s a great place for kids and the owners tell me they have exciting themed events coming up. New to the menu is the full English with an American twist.
Really, really nice place. Very clean not fussed and easy access all round. Great staff team to have a laugh with but also very attentive and helpful. Genuinely seemed to care. Very tasty food from plenty adequate menu and extremely well cooked. We had two burger meals four coffees with cream for just a tad over £23.00. We will be returning for sure. Thoroughly recommend..
Dissapointing. Ordered nachos for £9, recieved cold tortilla chips with cheap semi-melted cheddar accompanied by a bit of salsa, sour cream and ketchup. Politely complained and was told the missing ingredients would be brought out - which didn't happen. Had to go back in for a refund when we gave up waiting. No apology. We won't be coming back.
Me and my family came in for drinks today. We ended up staying for lunch as we looked at the lovely menu and were getting hungry. My two little great nephews had American pancakes. And my niece and sister had cheesy chips and nacho chilly cheese bites. I had a bacon and egg roll. Unlike your standard egg and bacon rolls. My bacon just kept going and going. food is very good and value for money. There was a miss communication where the lady who served us thought my sister asked for three loaded fries when she had said cheese and vice versa when it was repeated back to us. So we ended up with two bowls instead of one before the mistake was realised. Our server was very understanding and let us off of paying for the extra one. I hope to return again when visiting and would love to try the buffalo wings. Thank you route 66.
Amazing, latte was piping hot, stayed for lunch and portions were very generous. Absolutely delicious, staff were very friendly and helpful. If we're ever back in Christchurch we'll definitely be back. Dog friendly aswell.
Stopped for teas and coffee. Quick friendly service. Prices Very reasonable compared to others nearby. Excellent coffee, had to have a second it was so good. As was the tea. Others eating seemed very pleased too. Will come here again.
We had waffle and milkshake, waffles is looks yummy, but we find that it's too sweet and have some strange taste in the waffle. Milkshake is good, not too sweet but not cold enough
Too many cheifs not enough Indians! Bosses sat in booth at computer cristising staff who were running around like headless chickens! Coffee machine was broken and service slow! Food all frozen & overpriced! Young waitress Caitlin very friendly and chatty but clearly underappreciated ! Food was ok, nice hot chocolates & desserts Diner has nice decor and nice Xmas Dec's 2
If you have actually done Route 66 then stay away from here! We came in looking forward to showing the family the foods I'd eaten on the route last year. However its just a dog friendly cafe with Route 66 stuff on the walls. The menu is American themed to uk taste. As its a "Route 66" cafe I was expecting an authentic Route 66 Menu, but it had nothing on it : the fries were amazing, hotdogs luke warm and felt like a bad atmosphere. Very clean just a let down with the name. More like a ford focus with rolls Royce badge
THE place for breakfast. I don't have a small appetite. Often, when I order a "big" breakfast, I am left disappointed. Not at Route 66. My wife ordered the regular, and struggled. I ordered the big breakfast and pretty much hit my limit. Food was great, sausage patties read quarter pounders were amazing, as were the mushrooms. Also, first place I've seen in a while that offers fried bread. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, dog friendly, and a little bucket of dog treats was brought to our table. Server also made a fuss of our dog. It's not cheap, but it's not outrageously expensive either. Chains could learn a LOT from Route 66. Attentive service, good quality, not skimping on portions, paying attention to the little things. We will be going back there. Definite hidden gem of Christchurch.
