I find it hard to keep my praise for Shehzarin Batha Couture to a minimum. After David and I announced our engagement, I started thinking about a dress. Having lost nearly 130kg, I had no idea what style I could wear. I decided to visit boutiques just to see what suited me, with a view to hiring something appropriate. All the boutiques were booked out for months. We went without an appointment, hoping to at least look at dresses, if not try them on. We tried other boutiques who couldn’t accommodate us. Shehzarin Batha had just had a cancellation and saw us straight away. In next hour I tried on two other dresses, before stepping into the sample of this incredible gown. To say I was bowled over is an understatement. With the incredible unique design and bespoke work in making it to measure by hand, it was beyond my wildest dreams. I nursed the hope in my heart that it might be possible, but eventually had to accept it was just not doable financially. With sadness I wrote this letter to the designer and owner of the boutique, and enclosed a copy of my book ‘Inch by Inch: Finding a Home within My Skin’. “Dear Shehz and Harry, I wanted to thank you both so much for your kindness and support when I came wedding dress shopping on Saturday. My nieces and I were so grateful that you fit us in for a fitting as soon as we arrived, when we knew that boutiques like yours are often booked out weeks and months in advance. Your care and attention during the hour-long fitting were second to none. I felt totally pampered and taken care of – and knew that you were both fully committed to helping me find the perfect dress for my special day. I would have so loved to be able to “say ‘yes’ to the dress”, and it nearly broke my heart not to be able to do so. If circumstances were different, I would not have hesitated in committing to this – but unfortunately I’ve had to face the difficult reality of juggling a tight budget for the wedding, which precludes us buying a new dress, especially one of such high quality, craftsmanship and beauty. We will now look at hiring a dress or buying one second-hand. I am hopeful my dress will still be just right for the occasion, but it will be hard to have passed up on one so perfect! As we shared with you, being able to even try on a dress like this is extra-special for me. Just four years ago, when I weighed around 200kg, this was beyond the realms of my imagination. So to have been able to experience that precious moment of looking into your mirror wearing the most beautiful, perfect, strapless, fitted dress, was pure gift for me – and I will not forget it. As an expression of my thanks, I enclose a book/CD I have recorded and published about my life experiences. Perhaps in reading and listening, you might glean some more about how precious a moment it was for me on Saturday to try on that dress. Thank you again for all you did to facilitate that very special moment! With warm regards and thanks, Monique Lisbon” I then sent the letter, let go of the dream and started looking at hire shops and second hand dresses instead. A week later Harry called, nearly in tears, saying, “we knew there was a story when you came to see us - we just had no idea that this was your story.” Then they offered me the gift of a lifetime. The team of dressmakers at Shehzarin Batha offered to make my dress - more than 200 hours of work - at no cost. They only charged for the material. Shehz and her team apparently formed a book club to read my books and listen to my music while making the dress. So the beauty of the dress can never top the beauty of the love and grace extended to me by this extraordinary group of people. They are clear that it is a one-off - they have never done this before and are unlikely to again - but I can guarantee you that if you buy your wedding dress at Shehzarin Batha Couture, the love that is behind every single stitch and every single hour spent, adds up to more than all the riches in the world.
Could not recommend more highly. Shehz, Clara, Harry and Kanita were an absolute dream to work with and went above and beyond every step of the way. A team of gorgeous human beings who create the most beautifully crafted gowns. The "Mieka" dress was absolutely perfect in every way. Much love and gratitude to the team, photos to follow when back!
Couldn’t of asked for a better experience….. I started my wedding dress shopping journey in March this year and couldn’t look past Shehzarin Batha Couture. Aside from the most stunning and high quality dresses, my overall customer experience was meaningful and special. The staff made me feel comfortable, heard and beautiful every appointment. I picked up my dress this week and I couldn’t be happier!!! In particular, I highly recommend both Shez and Clara and thank them for making my dream dress.

I went to many dress makers and couldn’t find what I was looking for, and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and a plan to customise my vision! I started my dress shopping journey in between lockdowns last year, and wasn't able to focus and decide due to the ongoing disruptions. I didn't want to rush the decision. Ultimately when lockdowns finally came to end, Shehzarin Batha Couture was one of the first places I visited again and tried on the dresses that I tried the first time. The dress that I liked the most, made me feel like a queen the first time I tried it, the second time I tried it Which was the time I purchased and on my wedding day! Her choice of designs, fabrics, and details is aren't like any other designer in the market. It's elegant, timeless, sophisticated and of course beautiful. She stays true to her vision and doesn't let the noise distract her. A true artist. Not only that, their level of service and professionalism is outstanding. I could not recommend Shehzarin Batha Couture enough!
What can I say? My experience at Shehzarin Batha Couture was incredible. Firstly, the team are absolutely pros. They are all so capable and I felt very safe in their hands. Secondly, you are made to feel like family. I was intimidated by the process of finding a wedding dress at first, and had some average experiences at other boutiques, but as soon as I visited Shehzarin Batha Couture, I knew it was different! I was also part of the "covid wedding" cohort...cancellations, rescheduling etc. The team were so incredibly accommodating, which I think is a mark of their professionalism and customer-focus. In addition to beautiful dresses, they also have an excellent range of bridal footwear in store. Thank you everyone, particularly Clara, Harry, Shehz and Kanita!
