Only visited once so far but would go back. Ordered online and was ready quickly, 15 min or less around 530-545pm. Food was packed and hot. Got the dan dan ramen level 3 which was both delicious and spicy. Level 4 should satisfy most of the heat-seekers. Also got a side of Laska which was creamy, savory, and overall delicious, added to the ramen or standalone. The small spicy chicken nuggets were great. $10 seemed like it was a bit much, but the portion is actually generous. Place is actually in The Block Foodhall or whatever it's called which I didn't know. Parking: Ample parking Wheelchair accessibility: Flat lot should make the place ADA compliant
Great vibe and concept, solid food. Crispy pork belly is a little on the sweet side, and banh mi has regular spring mix/lettuce instead of more traditional veggies, but still a great unique concept with unique flavors. Laksa curry noodle is amazing
these guys know how to cook a mean chicken nicely marinated, flavorful! Fave place to go to when in the areaFood: 5/5
This is a very cool spot. My 3 stars are more based on the food. The chow fun was just okay, the chicken tasted like cheap chewy meat. The chicken nuggets - same thing. Good spices but consistency and taste of cheap meat. Spring roll was nothing special. The pig frites, that was the highlight for sure. Super delicious. I will definitely go back for that. Tasty pork belly, crispy fries, and I don't know what sauce they put on there but ooommmggg amazing. I think the menu is a hit or miss so I will go back and try other items. The actual building is really cool. Urban modern, with several different places to eat, like a food hall. I really liked that.
Delicious food and excellent service. I've been on two occasions so far and have not been disappointed. Whether it be the garlic noodles with char siu pork, hakka curry masala noodles with beef, or the rice with bourbon chicken the food has been phenomenal. Parking: Ample parking.
I have followed the Pho Wheels food truck around like a lost dog for the past 5 years and have been going here since they opened. You can not beat the flavorful foods they prepare here, their chef owner is a masterful chef, rarest of the rare who can create dishes that have the best umami flavors and dishes that as so amazing. The one I am posting was so delicious I wanted to dump it on my head! If you are visiting DC this is one of only three places you need to eat.
My favorite place for Vietnamese faire and comfort food. Super relaxed food court setting. The 24 hour smoked pork belly is amazing There are several other choices of restaurants just a step away. The service is quite friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking and easy handicapped access
Balo Kitchen came highly recommended and I see why. We did the small belly and rice $9.95 and it was a ton of food! The pork belly was thick and delicious. I highly recommend getting a fried egg on top of the bowl. We also did the egg rolls 3/$4.50 and can honestly say they were the best/lightest I’ve had in years. The service was fast and nice.
Balo Kitchen is a cute little vendor counter inside of the block. They have cute lighting and their menu is pretty big. However, for vegans, there is only one dish that can be considered vegan - and even still, there is an issue with the dish. The dish is named "Vegan Pho." And you would think, oh great! A vegan dish. However, they don't tell you that the tofu they put inside the pho is actually NOT vegan - it is fried with all of their other fried dishes chicken, porkbelly, and whatever else they fry. Even their french fries aren't vegan, because of course, they are fried in the same oil as all the other fried foods. Now, for some vegans this does not matter. But for those that do care like me, you should ensure that you ask them not to include the tofu, because it IS fried with the other non-vegan fried foods. Initially, they told me that it was 100% vegan, even the tofu, but upon the cashier checking with the chef, she called us back over to the counter and advised that no, the tofu is actually NOT vegan-friendly because it is fried with other non-vegan foods. Had we not asked if everything was fried separately, I likely would have gotten sick because the tofu is fried with everything else. So vegans, DON'T pay attention to the fact that the dish says Vegan Pho. Make sure you ask for the dish WITHOUT the tofu, vegetables only, and make sure they give you a decent amount of veggies to replace the tofu you didn't get in your dish. They gave me an okay amount of veggies, but I feel like they should have given me more, because while they said they would give me extra, it was hardly enough to replace the tofu. Overall, the pho was pretty good. I do wish it had more elements to it, maybe more veggie options or more veggies in general since I couldn't eat the tofu. So I give Balo Kitchen three stars because their "Vegan Pho" not advertised accurately - it should be Vegetarian Pho - and they only have one semi-vegan-friendly dish. If they had properly advertised the dish and gave me more veggies, I would give them five stars.
What's good? The General Tso chicken wings were amazing! Some of the tastiest wings we have had. We would go back just for the wings. The pepper steak was very good. The garlic noodles were decent. The fries could be much better.
