Came for the fossicking, stayed for the scenery; Outstandingly beautiful creek and river bank area.nGold panning, let’s face it it’s different and sounds exciting, the prospect - pun intended - of finding gold. We all know we won’t get rich, but it’s different and fun, especially for kids.nNow, it’s in the middle of nowhere; there are no coffee shops or stalls, no drinking fountains or even water, so go prepared. Take water/juice, snacks, towels with you, and “go” before you go.nAnd when bored of panning, find the damned area and sunbathe and swim
I thoroughly enjoyed the area. Left with lots of cuts and bruises as it's an area that is filled with amazingly sharp rocks not an area for the inexperienced unless you just want to go for a quick walk around the area not for families as you can walk the area in a short amount of time and see nothing interesting.
Worth a wander off you are curious and want to have a go at gold panning. You need to have all your own tools of the trade. The river is very accessible and is running as a creek.
Excellent walking trail right in town. Good for all fitness and most accessibility levels. Popular spot for dog walkers and even a little swimming spot for dogs. Entrance to the path is open in 4 spots including the newly opened path underneath Pengally bridge. This section will soon connect to the larger river to rail walk along the Mary River.
This is a great tourist attraction, however if you are planning an all day adventure you will need to pack a portable BBQ or picnic and there are no toilet blocks so the nearest amenities are a good 5 min drive away.nIt was great entertainment for the whole family panning for treasure.
