Davis Monumental

About

Davis Monumental is a family owned and run stone masonry business serving Sunraysia and surrounding areas in all types of Cemetery and Monumental works.

Story

In 1934, Bruce Davis began his apprenticeship in the Stone masonry trade.
More than 80 years and 3 generations on, Bruce’s trade has evolved to become Davis Monumental.
His trade began in Adelaide, South Australia under the watchful eye of the Stan Tillett.
As the Tillett family business expanded beyond Adelaide, Bruce relocated to the Mildura area and continued his work in local cemeteries, parks and buildings. Bruce’s work was interrupted by WWII where he served in Papua New Guinea for its duration.
Before retiring, Bruce worked as the Sexton/curator of the Nichols Point Cemetery, furthering his involvement in the monumental field.

Having grown up in the cemetery residence at Nichols Point, the monumental trade surrounded Bruce’s eldest son, Wayne from a young age. Following school and an engineering degree, Wayne began a decade of tech school teaching before returning to the family Stonemasonry trade. With Bruce’s assistance, Wayne transformed the families’ humble beginnings to what is now
Davis Monumental.
The business formed in the early 80’s, ran from the family home in Fourteenth Street, Irymple.
It began with one utility, a small office, a garden-set display area and a 20 x 20 tin shed.
Clients were welcomed in to the family home by all members of the family and shown through the small display of memorials. Time was taken to get to know our client and their needs before being provided with a quote and the offer of further assistance should it be required.
Wayne’s wife Rosalind is a vital member of the business also. Her lifelong work in nursing and midwifery and nurturing personality has been of comfort to many. Ros works with Wayne and Leigh in a support role behind the scenes and also with clients.

The third generation of the business, son Leigh, was also introduced to the trade at an early age,
often accompanying Wayne to the cemeteries as the “leading hand”.
Leigh’s post-school employment included time spent in the
RAAF (Edinburgh, SA & Forrest Hill, NSW) and locally in various roles before taking on an apprenticeship in Metal Fabrication working in local workshops, civil construction and mine sites.
Leigh now combines his experiences with his skills engrained via his family to be the newest member of the family heritage. Leigh proudly continues the trade along-side Wayne in their new premises at 2140 Fifteenth Street, Irymple. His ambition is to continue the family’s trade, to further develop the business with the addition of the latest technologies and to offer a boarder choice for local families.

Throughout the years the techniques of producing high quality monuments have changed, but at Davis Monumental, one thing has remained the same…our service.
Built on firm family values and a strong sense of pride in our work, Davis Monumental offers a compassionate and caring environment to create the perfect, everlasting monument.

“I am very fortunate to be a part of this family tradition.
It is very rewarding to be a part of that final step for families.”
Leigh Davis

Went to Davis Momumental the other day. Spoke to Wayne about some replacement flower holders for our Grandparents headstone. He was very helpful, kind and understanding. Absolutely great service. Have had a lot of dealing with Wayne and never have been disappointed. Keep up the great service. Mammone and Tassone family.

HI, in the end, what we want are honest companies that do the decent thing by their customers, Instead of unscrupulous businesses putting their own interests first, in obtaining increased finances ahead of the concerns of those very same customers “A responsible honest business" would have tried harder to do what is paramount to retain their customer’s satisfaction, and trust, and continually being deceptive in their manner will definitely not reach that end; and it is "incredible" for Davis Monumental to believe otherwise; Wayne and Ros Davis (of Davis Monumental) would you mind explaining to the people of Sunraysia, and the Australian public and also to the world, as well as to my family and me, why you did not place at my late wife’s grave, “the correct headstone and layout” that I paid you to place out there? And why you continually refuse to “honour your contract” to do so; (could it be because I “refused” to pay you again? as you asked me to)? And would you also like to explain why you “breached our trust”? Wayne and Ros Davis you have “Dishonoured yourselves” are you “embarrassed” do you feel “shameful” when your inadequacy or guilt is made public?? If not you should be; the only ones being “deluded” by your actions are yourselves; “It takes less time to do a thing right, than it does to explain why you did it wrong” Please take under advisement, that If you or anyone you know need the services of a monumental Mason, then you would be well informed to stay as far away from Davis monumental as possible because they show total disrespect and a contemptuous attitude towards their customers wishes, and the possibilities are extremely high that you will not get what you ask for; they are not worth the effort, look elsewhere! Enjoy your well informed day
