My partner and I stayed at The Crown Sydney for one night to celebrate our anniversary. While the hotel has a stunning ambiance, the experience was disappointing. Despite noting our special occasion, there was no acknowledgment or extra touch, and service was slow—our champagne arrived without glasses, and we waited over an hour for them. We also ordered two pillows, but only one arrived.nnThough the hotel looks beautiful, the stay itself lacked comfort. The room got hot overnight, and the bed wasn’t great. The pool was closed due to weather, and with no indoor pool or spa, there weren’t many amenities to enjoy.nnConsidering we’ve had better experiences at lower-priced hotels, the value here didn’t match up. The restaurants—Amare and Epicurean—are fantastic, but I’d recommend skipping the hotel stay.
The Crown in Barangaroo standouts among Sydney’s luxury hotels. From the moment we arrived, everything felt new, clean, and top-tier. Our room offered sweeping views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge—a postcard-perfect scene we willingly stared at all day. The room itself was spacious and modern. The marble bathroom was a highlight, complete with plush robes, a large soaking tub, and even a heated toilet seat!nnA feature we really appreciated was the elevator design. There’s a separate door that opens to the elevator area, keeping the noise contained. Even though our room was near the elevators, it was quiet—something many hotels can’t quite pull off. It’s a small touch, but it made a big difference in how relaxing our stay felt.nnBreakfast was another memorable experience. From fresh pastries and fruit to a wide range of hot dishes - there will be something for everyone. The dining area is large, with lots of natural light filling the space.nnThe location in Barangaroo is another win. You’re right in the middle of one of Sydney’s most vibrant areas, surrounded by great restaurants, shops, and the harbor. If you’re considering it, book the room with the view—you won’t regret it.
Rooms were nice but a lot of hidden extra charges. I also wanted to use the spa and sauna and they wanted to charge me $100 to use it. I was told at the buffet it was $40 a person but then at check out they wanted to charge me $65 a person. Would not recommend. We wanted to order room service but they wanted to charge a $7 fee. To park my car underground was also $100 even though I payed heaps for the hotel.
Check-in takes around 30 minutes, even if you arrive early, likely due to the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts FHR perk. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, featuring a wide variety of dishes and cuisines to suit every preference.nnRooms are expensive for what you get especially during peak times. We stayed during the Christmas holidays.nnOverall a great experience.
