Fantastic park in the middle of Williamstown CBD situated right against the water and Gem Pier. Great way to spend that day walking around and looking at the historical sight and also the retail shops nearby. Council had done a good job of keeping park clean and tidy, allowing picnics or taking in the sun. Public toilets and children's playground.
Stopped here for lunch as part of our Yarra river cruise, 1 1/2 hour stop over between boats, lovely green park with plenty of shops close by, 2 fish and chip shops to choose from with in 100 meters of park entrance, plenty of seating and toilet facilities, even a tourist info centre in the park
Commonwealth Reserve use to be our favourite place to take our kids when they were little. It was easy to find a car park AND it was free. There were nice little boutique shops to visit and cheap fish and chips were always available. Ending a visit with a picnic in the reserve was a delightful experience. What was once a lovely local spot to spend a Sunday afternoon has now turned into a high tourism location, with very little and expensive parking and the boutique shops are now turned into fancy cafes or cheap tourism gift shops. It's sad. It once was a beautiful place to visit.
Its a beautiful place to enjoy time with kids and family. Many trees for shade, just opposite the market, with a kids play area, and with wonderful skyline view of the city. Highly recommended
Nice place but always super busy and no easy parking with strict council parking rules. So be careful!!! Very hard to find a parking spot though. Don’t forget to walk on the pier and check the city from there.
Great place for families, kids, and group BBQs, especially during sunny beautiful days like today. The breeze coming from the water, the beautiful sunshine, the relaxed and happy atmosphere is just perfect. The kids also have a lot of fun on the playground, watching the ships from the pier, and there's enough grass to play soccer/footy while parents and grandparents picnic. There are tennis courts if you wanna have a game and heaps of great restaurants to choose from the main strip also. Just an overall family-friendly environment - would definitely recommend for a lazy weekend.
This is a beautiful place. I read a little about the history of the place and apparently some the land is reclaimed from the sea, as are other parts of Williamstown. The reserve has been there since Melbourne's first sea-port was established circa 1835 and there's a big gazebo like structure where bands used to play so it's literally brimming with history. As an added bonus at one end there's an amazing seafood restaurant called Pelicans Landing that has really friendly and professional staff and amazing food at affordable prices. You can't not have a nice day at this place.
Wonderful little park in the heart of historic Williamstown offering shade, lawns and views of Melbourne across Hobsons bay.
Beautiful views of the water front and city. Great for a pinic
Great little park by the harbor. Several historical articles atree in the park as well as toilets, information centre, playgrounds and booking for seaplanes and cruises. The are many good restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops within a couple of minutes walk. This is a lovely spot for the kids or a romantic afternoon.
