My first job was at a Coles in Melbourne, so I’ve been biased ever since. Have been going to the Benalla Coles for years and the staff have always been super friendly. Unfortunately it only takes one bad apple to ruin a reputation. Today I met that bad apple. The young cashier was lovely and as I came up noticed another employee milling about ‘collecting baskets’ while having a chat all good. Put my things through and before paying asked for cash out. I misheard and thought she said put your card, I tapped and purchase went through. She explained I couldn’t get cash out now as I’d need to make another purchase. I looked around and nothing within reach only pringles and thought I really don’t want to buy something I don’t want. I asked if she could refund one of the items still not packed away and then put through with the cash out. The other employee still standing next to the register said “she can’t but I could” and just stood there. Didn’t proceed to do anything. It was like I was asking them for a massive favour. She gave me a rude look like how dare I ask her to do this huge effort. I said please don’t do this to me. Give me unnecessary attitude. She said do you want to do it or not. It was very clear asking this was such an inconvenience to her. She was literally doing NOTHING. I went to the front counter and spoke to a supervisor. This employee in front of the supervisor then continued to escalate the situation. She clearly also has zero respect for her fellow coworkers & supervisors.nnI was young when I started at Coles but I had ten times better customer service in my little finger than this person. There are plenty of people out there looking for work that I’m sure would love the opportunity to work at Coles. I found it a great starting point and I know for a fact this wouldn’t have been allowed where I worked. They have a high standard of customer service.nnHate to sound like a boomer but ‘back in my day’ majority of transactions were cash, most days every single register was open and still have a queue of 2-5 people at each and at 14–15 years of age you dealt with that pressure and all with great customer service & a smile.nnSome people just shouldn’t work in customer service, it’s a hard job but if you’re going to give attitude over nothing only to make a happy customer agro, you’re in the wrong job!nnI’m converting to Woolies.
The GOOD: Super friendly staff, always a happy vibe among the team. Compact layout makes it easy to find what you need.nThe BAD: Coles using chemical Bovaer® in their milk and meat. Like something from a bad sci-fi movie… Scary.
Great place for shopping, a huge range of goods and good price. Friendly staff.
Waited a long time in line as cashier was too busy talking to get on with serving people . Nice to be friendly but it was ridiculously slow
A really small little supermarket but they had so much variety and the staff were great.
