I had a terrible experience with the staff at the self-serve checkout, particularly with the Asian customer service lady. She made us feel like thieves for simply following the correct procedure of weighing an item and placing it in the trolley. She insisted that we leave everything on the scale. When I asked what happens when the scale is full, she contradicted herself by saying we could then place items in the trolley.nnI explained that we were carefully weighing and scanning everything, then placing fragile items in the trolley to avoid damage. Despite this, she treated us with suspicion and was unhelpful. It was clear everything had been scanned and weighed, yet she ignored this and continued forcing her will on us.nnThis behaviour was not only frustrating for us but also for other customers who genuinely needed help with the machines. Instead of assisting them, she chose to focus on us unnecessarily, which only made the experience worse for everyone.nnColes needs to address this issue with their staff to ensure customers are treated with respect and the self-serve area is properly supported.
The store should be closed, it’s a health and safety hazard for anyone who enters. There are major leaks coming from the ceiling which are dripping onto light fixtures in the isles below that have been covered in plastic bags, puddles of water in the isle floors and buckets filled with water also blocking the isles. Not to mention the mouldy ceiling which looks like it’s going to collapse at any moment. The conditions are getting worse and more dangerous but nothing is getting done to fix the issue, they still remain open for trade. Absolutely appalling.
Yesterday, at Coles in Ashfield, while shopping, I felt unwell during the self-checkout process, right after paying for my groceries. I am 19 weeks pregnant, and the heat of the day combined with exhaustion made me feel faint, likely due to a drop in blood pressure, which has happened before. I bent down in front of the counter as I was feeling dizzy and struggling to breathe.nnAn elderly customer noticed my situation, approached me, and kindly asked if I was okay or needed help. I explained that I was feeling unwell and that I am pregnant. She was very supportive, offering her help and staying by my side to assist me.nnTo my surprise, this same lady who was supporting me told me that one of the store’s employees—an elderly Asian woman with short hair working at the self-checkout counter—commented to her that I was probably stealing something. I was shocked and, at the moment, didn’t have the strength to react due to how unwell I felt. However, upon reflecting on the situation, I am outraged by such rudeness. This accusation was baseless, as I had already paid for my purchases.nnThis same employee has been rude to me on other occasions, which has caused me to avoid shopping at this store. I have also heard that other customers have been similarly mistreated by her, with false accusations of theft.nnIt is important for her to understand that false accusations are serious and can have legal consequences. Any claims must be backed by evidence, which can be verified by the store’s security cameras.nnI hope to shop at this store again in the future, but only when this employee is no longer working there. Behavior like hers should not be tolerated.
Easy parking etc but I agree with other reviewers when she says the shelves are not stocked and there are many items that should be at this coles which simply are not. Mostly a disappointment lately when I go there as it looks a mess and there is terrible leaks when it rains. Also there are lots of empty cartons on shelves because staff do not remove them. It' needs big overhaul. The bakery is good though.
When I was at the self checkout today trying to purchase one of the nut mixes the kiosk didn't have the item in the system, the staff member insisted that I had mixed other things together and couldn't have it, I told her that I could show her that I had correctly packaged the mix but it took another 10 mins of me insisting that she get another staff member to help before it happened.nnLuckily, I was able to show the second staff member and he put the item into the system as a custom order. Hopefully Coles management follows up to make sure that the item isn't missing again. Was quite frustrating
