The parents of a three-year-old boy who escaped from a childcare centre and wandered home along a busy street say their son could have been killed due to the lack of supervision. Benjamin Atley was attending Clayton South Childcare Centre on Friday last week when he slipped past his supervisors, walked through three security doors and out onto the road about 5pm The little boy toddled about 600 metres to his house on Milton Road, where his father Anthony Milne was astonished to find him on the front lawn. His mother Victoria Atley said when they rang the childcare centre to find out what had happened, the staff were unaware that he was missing. Ms Atley said Benjamin had crossed a busy intersection alone at peak-hour, and it was amazing that he had not been hit. "I could only ask my son and get bits and piece off him about how he got home," Ms Atley said. "I said 'Did you cross the road by yourself?' And he said 'Yes'. I said 'Did you look?', and he said 'No'." "It could have been any child. Mine's okay, thank God, but what happens if it's another child?"
