Truly a 10/10 every time I go. Food is always fresh and delicious. I also think the calamari might be magic? Somehow never stringy, always utterly delightful
Without fail, this was my go-to takeway every Sunday when I was in Brisbane. Battered fish, chips with chicken salt and crumbed calamaris have always been excellent there. Friendly people behind the counter too. Parking could be a bit of a challenge especially during peak hours.
I write this review as someone who genuinely believes Clayfield Fish Markets can do better; I had previously been a loyal customer 7 years ago. A few years ago, they cut flake so I stopped going, and on the odd occasion when we had a gluten free guest, we would purchase. There was a noticeable decline in quality of food. Tonight I noted that once again flake was on the menu, however was left bitterly disappointed. First of all, I’m not even sure what I was served was flake. The texture and flavour was different. Chips were bland, requiring more seasoning and probably another minute in the fryer. We used to be able to purchase additional chicken salt however this had changed. Calamari was ok. I feel that there has been some sort of change in ownership and the quality has decreased, with the store relying on the fact it’s in a great location next to the grocery store and butcher. I hope that it gets back to the quality it once once, however I won’t be purchasing again to find out.
My partner recommended their chips, and he ordered a combo this time as it’s cheaper order via their website than via UberEats.nnThe chips are very crunchy, fish is well cooked as well. The whole meal was a good size, definitely enough for two. I would definitely come back if I have the craving for fish and chips.
As someone who grew up obsessed with Macca's fish burger, the Kraken burger from this spot is like the better, fresher adult version of my childhood favorite. The chips were pretty solid too, and the staff were nice. One thing I didn't like was the limited seating options and lack of breeze. Could feel pretty stuffy when the place is packed. However, I would definitely come here again.
