There is a lady who works for this particular opshop, she has grey/blonde hair always in a bun, I believe she is a manager of some sort. Anyway, she has the foulest attitude I've ever seen on a retail worker, she is always rude whenever I come in. She never smiles or says hello, when she serves me and other customers she has a fowl look on her face and doesn't look happy to be working. I've had a few depressing encounters with this woman where she has made me feel like I should have shopped somewhere else, I love this specific opshop but this manager lady ruins my experience whenever she is in. She is a miserable, nasty lady and should not be in retail working with people.
Alright, here it comes. This review has been a long time coming and the excellence of mission op shops have provided the perfect opportunity to do so.nnThis organisation is the gold standard. I have lived and moved all over Australia never stopping in a town for more than 7 years and I can say without a doubt, after 40 odd years, that the state of charity shops in Australia is at an all time low.nnAnd it would be almost defunct if it wasn't for some of the off brand church/animal welfare spots dotted across the land.nnSeriously, what happened Vinnie's, Salvos and Lifeline? Where is the charity? High prices and stock that is distributed via warehouses into the foulness of 'Charity Beautique'... Absolutely disgraceful. Every item is pricechecked online and the magic that once was opshops in this country stripped bare.nnAnd then there are places like City Mission. Where you can ALWAYS find something that makes life easier on a budget... And not only that occasionally find something genuinely special, because it hasn't been gathered in warehouses and strained through a collander to maximise profit... And it is still run by a small, generous organisation that redistributes wealth into community in which it operates.nnWhoever the district manager is in Hobart and the surrounding suburbs deserves to be credited with serious respect. Your stores are well organised, priced, lit and have friendly staff who obviously love volunteering because of the atmosphere you have created.nnIf I had one wish it would be that jams and chutneys return to the counters of these places.nnOther than that; 5 stars.
HUGE op shop. Friendly and helpful staff. Full of useful and interesting things - clothes, electrical, cutlery, crockery, DVD's, VHS's, and even a giant wine glass full of buttons! Well worth a look.
This op shop used to be my most favourite op shop anywhere in the nation. It used to have a substantial mens clothes section now the men’s section is the size of a small shed. I used to tell everyone about it. It also used to have late night shopping 1 night of the week l. Now it shuts at 5. The good thing about the op shop it has a large female section
This is the absolute worst charity shop in all of Tasmania! There are no justifications for the obscene prices this secondhand store charges! Your stock is free! Your staff are mainly volunteer, no holidays or sick pay to be given, and yet you still price gouge! You are not eBay, you are not an antique store, YOU ARE A CHARITY SHOP!! But all the charity seems to have gone to the fat Ceos and managers! Greedy, capitalists is what you've become!
