I was very keen to try this place after seeing recommendations for it on various websites. You enter via a cute little courtyard which we didn’t quite get to enjoy as it was rainy that day and sat ourselves down at an empty table inside the church - there’s not really a front desk or anyone at the door to greet you which was a little unexpected as the entrance was more like a side door. We ordered and paid at the bar where the staff was friendly and efficient, and the food arrived reasonably quickly. We ordered 2 pizzas - the Russell and the Brilliant. Loved the Russell! Both pizzas came with a thin crust. The poached egg on the Russell had an oozing yolk, you could taste the truffle oil throughout and all the flavours absolutely complemented each other. I’d totally go back for that! The Brilliant, compared to the Russell, wasn’t so brilliant but that was my personal taste. It tasted like what is promised on the menu - five-spiced duck and the sweet soy drizzle was a nice touch although I could it could have done with a touch more of it. But I think I liked the Russell too much to properly enjoy this one - I’m also not used to having duck on my pizza. Thought this might have converted me but alas, it didn’t.
Great place for pizza. They let you add custom toppings to the pizzas too for a small charge around $2. The drinks are good as well. Good place any amount of people. The entrance is a bit weird to find but the hunt is part of the fun as the buildings are beautiful too.
Dunno about the new opening, I'll give them time to adjust and review down the road. Pros: -Nice Booths for dining -Fireplace is actually in use -Floor is nicer to walk on -Pizza base has improved -Better vegetarian options Cons: -Less beer Varieties -Less Pizza Varieties -$12 Beers
Some people here are saying that the pizza has gone backwards since reopening. Those people should just stick with Domino's. New interior is great with comfortable booths relaxed, private seating. They have done a great job in fixing the dark indoor area making the dining section far better. Pizzas were best I've had since honeymooning in Italy. Pizzas are more authentic and staff were friendly and efficient. I'm looking forward to taking friends there.
Very well decorated restaurant. Nice ambience. They have huge indoor as well and outdoor seating arrangements. It wasn't too crowded on a Sunday evening .The entrance is at the back. Parking is available in the surrounding vicinity. Plenty of vegetarian options in pizza. The pizza was delicious. Food was served quickly. Good customer service.
Authentic Woodfire pizza’s.. perfect every time! They have a great array of craft beers and a very nice wine list. The service is always great and timely. We always love coming to this charming converted Church bar when visiting Bathurst. The vibe is hip and fun.. a great experience!
Location is spectacular as were the pizzas, some of the best I’ve ever had. Love the properly made fresh bases and good ingredients, and it’s woodfired to top it off. 10/10 I was a bit worried in that some of the photos showed cheap thin bases, but looks like they have upgraded significantly since then
I visited during the day. It was quiet which was nice. The service was great. Drinks were delicious.
Great place to come! Pizza's were really delicious, although the mixed mushroom pizza was definitely NOT "mixed" mushrooms but what looked and tasted like swiss brown only... Not sure if it was because it wasn't the season or cost wise was too expensive to have other mushrooms there, but they should've at least said that. Other than that, the food was great, excellent atmosphere. The whisky sour was ok-ish, good flavor but not enough foam density
We discovered Church Bar, a dining place inside an old Anglican Church. It is also the largest public execution site in the 19th century. I fell in love straight away with the old architecture, the rustic atmosphere, the dim-lit candles, and excellent hospitality. The pizzas are delicious, and they go well with the drinks. I think the dessert pizza is okay on the other hand, perhaps it is better for Church Bar to make real desserts like cakes or something.
